<br />I <br /> <br />ORDINANCE NO. ,~ , 1989 <br />ORDINANCE REQUIRING THE INSTALLATION OF SMOKE DETECTORS <br />IN THREE OR MORE FAMILY DWELLING UNITS AND MOBILE HOMES <br />AND CERTAIN MANUFACTURED HOUSING <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the Civil Town of Mooresville is governed by its <br /> <br />Board of Trustees who are responsible for the health and safety of <br /> <br />its citizens; <br /> <br />WHEREAS, fire annually presents a health and safety factor to <br /> <br />all citizens; <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the Mooresville Fire Department has advised the Town <br /> <br />of Board Trustees of studies done by the National Commission on <br /> <br />Fire Prevention and Control and that said studies reveal that a <br /> <br />large percentage of fire deaths and injuries could be avoided; <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the Civil Town of Mooresville through its Board of <br /> <br />Trustees recognizes that smoke detectors could help protect the <br /> <br />public's health and safety from fires, NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT <br /> <br />ORDAINED by the Town Board of Trustees of the Civil Town of <br /> <br />Mooresville, Indiana: <br /> <br />SECTION I - DEFINITIONS <br /> <br />When used in this Ordinance: <br /> <br />(1) "Smoke Detector" shall be defined as a device which <br /> <br />detects particles or products of combustion other than heat, <br /> <br />approved by Underwriters Laboratories, Inc., or Factory Mutual, <br /> <br />equipped with a test button, and may be either battery powered, <br /> <br />minimum 9 volt, or 110 volt A.C. <br /> <br />(2) "Multiple Family Dwelling Unit" shall be defined as any <br /> <br />building that contains living quarters for three or more <br /> <br />occupancies, and shall include hotels, motels, boarding houses, <br /> <br />sleeping room house, buildings of mixed occupancy, having any <br /> <br />residential units, nursing homes, convalescent homes, licensed <br /> <br />half-way houses, or lodging houses. <br /> <br />(3) "Mobile Home or Manufactured Housing and Mobile Homes" <br /> <br />shall be defined as any mobile home, trailer, or manufactured <br /> <br />housing not meeting the standards set out in Indiana Code 36-7-4- <br /> <br />1106 and all amendments thereto which is used for permanent <br /> <br />occupancy to an individual or individuals as a residence. <br />
