Minutes of the Metropolitan Police Commissioners Meeting July 17, 2008 The meeting was opened with the Pledge of Allegiance. Commissioner Berwick welcomed everyone to the meeting. Present were Chief Viles, Captain Allen, Commissioners Berwick, Kays and Bryant,Town Attorney Timothy Currens. Commissioner Kays motioned for the minutes to be approved and Commissioner Bryant seconded. Old Business No old business was reported or discussed. New Business Chief Viles advised the Police Commissioners of the Statistics for the Month of June. Chief Viles advised that Police Commissioners of a plaque that was given to the department by Chief Dave Davis of the Brown Township Fire Department in regards to the fire fighter that was killed in the line of duty. Chief Viles updated the Police Commissioners on the status of Officers Ashbach and Goodwin at the Indiana Law Enforcement Academy. Chief Viles advised the Police Commissioners that both officers are at the top of their academy class. Chief Viles advised that the ILEA graduation will be on August 22, 2008. Chief Viles updated the Police Commissioners on the status of Officer David Schultz, currently working the late shift. Chief Viles advised the Police Commission that he had gone to the Mooresville Town Board and asked for a 22nd police officer and was granted his request. Chief Viles stated that he would like to hire the remaining name on the hiring list, Matthew McDaniel. Commissioner Bryant motioned to make an offer to hire Matthew McDaniel and Commissioner Kays seconded. Chief Viles was requested to keep the Commission updated on the process and whether McDaniel will make the September ILEA class. The Police Commission discussed the availability of Reserve Police Officer Schools and how they should proceed in hiring more officers and getting their training. The Police Commission agreed to discuss the matter at a later meeting.
