Minutes of the Metropolitan Police <br /> Commissioners Meeting <br /> July 17, 2008 <br /> The meeting was opened with the Pledge of Allegiance. Commissioner Berwick <br /> welcomed everyone to the meeting. Present were Chief Viles, Captain Allen, <br /> Commissioners Berwick, Kays and Bryant,Town Attorney Timothy Currens. <br /> Commissioner Kays motioned for the minutes to be approved and Commissioner Bryant <br /> seconded. <br /> Old Business <br /> No old business was reported or discussed. <br /> New Business <br /> Chief Viles advised the Police Commissioners of the Statistics for the Month of June. <br /> Chief Viles advised that Police Commissioners of a plaque that was given to the <br /> department by Chief Dave Davis of the Brown Township Fire Department in regards to <br /> the fire fighter that was killed in the line of duty. <br /> Chief Viles updated the Police Commissioners on the status of Officers Ashbach and <br /> Goodwin at the Indiana Law Enforcement Academy. Chief Viles advised the Police <br /> Commissioners that both officers are at the top of their academy class. Chief Viles <br /> advised that the ILEA graduation will be on August 22, 2008. <br /> Chief Viles updated the Police Commissioners on the status of Officer David Schultz, <br /> currently working the late shift. <br /> Chief Viles advised the Police Commission that he had gone to the Mooresville Town <br /> Board and asked for a 22nd police officer and was granted his request. Chief Viles stated <br /> that he would like to hire the remaining name on the hiring list, Matthew McDaniel. <br /> Commissioner Bryant motioned to make an offer to hire Matthew McDaniel and <br /> Commissioner Kays seconded. Chief Viles was requested to keep the Commission <br /> updated on the process and whether McDaniel will make the September ILEA class. <br /> The Police Commission discussed the availability of Reserve Police Officer Schools and <br /> how they should proceed in hiring more officers and getting their training. The Police <br /> Commission agreed to discuss the matter at a later meeting. <br />
