Chief Julian advised the commission on the three new officers that were hired. They are <br />probationary officers Nolan Wicks, Tyler Smith and Avery Richey. Ernie Wilson made a motion <br />to accept all three as officers. Fred Settle seconded. No discussion. Motion approved <br />unanimously. <br />Chief Julian advised the commission that Captain Kays placed as posted that the department is <br />now accepting applications for laterals. <br />Chief Julian presented the commission with the stats for January and February of 2021 <br />Chief Julian advised that Probationary officers Wicks, Smith and Richey are currently in their 40 <br />hour pre -basic class and that they will be completing the firearms section soon. The probationary <br />period for Officers Miller and Turner will end on April 13, 2021. <br />Chief Julian advised that if an officer retires in good standing and with 20 years of service or <br />more they will be allowed to keep their service weapon. That was approved by the Town of <br />Mooresville Town Council as part of the recognition for years of service. They are also looking <br />at adding other benefits to the employee package. <br />Chief Julian advised that the new server was in and that Spillman was up and running. He <br />advised that there was a few glitches but Spillman is working on it. He advised that the email <br />was back up and that they were looking at a newer version of Outlook. <br />Attorney Charles Braun addressed the issue of a third police commissioner and the party <br />affiliation requirement. He advised that it was up to the Mooresville Town Council and that the <br />party affiliation could be waived if there was an applicant that fit all of the other requirements. <br />He advised that there needed to be a good faith effort to show that they were trying to get them a <br />replacement commissioner. Chief Julian advised that the Town Board did bring up the vacancies <br />on the various boards. Fred Settle stated that he was concerned because currently there is two <br />members and that if something was to come up and he could not make the meeting, the meeting <br />would have to be cancelled. He further stated that there have been vacancies on the commission <br />for most of his six year term. <br />Ernie Wilson made a motion to adjourn. Fred Settle seconded it. No discussion. Motion passed <br />unanimously. <br />
