TOWN OF MOORESVILLE ORDINANCE 7-2021 AN ORDINANCE AMENDING THE TOWN OF MOORESVILLE'S POLICE RESERVE PROGRAM WHEREAS, the Town of Mooresville (the "Town") is a political subdivision existing under the provisions of Indiana Code § 36-4-1, et. seq.; WHEREAS, the Mooresville Town Council (the "Council") is the governing body of the Town; WHEREAS, the Town is granted the authority through Indiana Code § 36-8-3-20 to establish a police reserve program ("Reserve Program"); WHEREAS, on April 18, 2000, the Town adopted Ordinance 3-2000 and created the Reserve Program, which has been successfully providing additional protection for the Towns residents for more than twenty years; WHEREAS, the Town continues to believe it is in the best interests of the community to maintain the Reserve Program; however, the Town recognizes the need to amend the ordinance to ensure compliance with state law; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED by the Mooresville Town Council as follows: 1. Police reserve officers may not be members of the regular police department but have all of the same police powers as regular members, except as limited by the rules of the department, in accordance with § 36-8-3-20, as amended. 2. Police reserve officers must follow all Department Rules and Regulations, Policies and Standard Operating Procedures. 3. There shall be five (5) officers in the Reserve Program, unless Council determines during the annual budget process that more or less are needed.
