Board of Zoning Appeals Mooresville Indiana Thursday May 13, 2021
Members: Mike Young, David Sadler, Charles McGuire, Jennifer Meador and attorney Beth Copeland
At 6:00 pm Mike Young opened the meeting with a call to approve the minutes from the April meeting
with no changes or corrections. Motion to accept came from David Sadler, seconded by Charles
McGuire, passed unanimously.
Mike Young stated that a variance on County Line Road would not be considered and stated that a
continuance was requested.
Next on the agenda was a variance on Woodside Drive. John Larrison of Holloway Engineering described
a replat of minor plat in Brown Township. Lot 1 belongs to the Abney, and they want to build a pole
barn where existing shed sits. Mr. Larrison described a "bump out", an 8.5x13.5 -foot strip that has been
deeded to Abney family. The bump out allowed the Abney's to meet setback of 10 feet in agriculturally
zoned property. Holloway Engineering, for the Abney family, took 48 feet off north end of the property
and shortened easement, creating a replat and asked for a variance from 48 feet to 10 feet. The
driveway will end at the new pole barn on the site of the existing shed. David Sadler asked if the utility
easement ends at pole barn as indicated on the drawing, and John Larrison responded yes. Charles
McGuire clarified that the pole barn was on Lott. Beth Copeland asked if there were more than two
accessory structures, as only two accessory structures are allowed. Mr. Larrison clarified that the barn
will be built where the current shed stands, and the existing barn is owned by Jack Ward, the father.
Mike Young stated that the cart was again before the horse, as the replatting would not be considered
until the Planning Commission meeting. He called for discussion on procedure, but David Sadler
responded that he believed an exception could be made in this instance. David Sadler made the motion
to accept the variance as requested with the provision that the replat was approved in the Planning
Commission meeting. Charles McGuire seconded the motion, and it was approved unanimously.
Mike Young called for new or old business and then a motion for adjournment. Charles McGuire made
the motion to adjourn, David Sadler seconded, and the motion passed unanimously. Meeting ended at
6:17.
