Motion carried 5-0 <br />Mark Thompson came before the council to request speed limit signs be erected, suggesting 25 <br />mph for the Roberson Woods neighborhood. The state statute for a non -posted speed limit in a <br />residential area is 30 mph. Council President Warthen suggested requesting additional patrols in <br />the community. Councilman Cook will be working with Chief Julian to begin proactive patrols, <br />and once the radar trailer is repaired, the police department will place it in the neighborhood for a <br />while. <br />Evapor Agreement Chief Julian stated that this is under legal review at the moment. <br />Federal Signal Agreement Chief Julia stated that this is under legal review at the moment. <br />Department Head Reports — <br />Chief Julian updated that a new officer is scheduled to be sworn in on August 16th and has three <br />officers in the academy. <br />Legal — <br />A motion was passed at the last meeting to accept agreement pending legal counsel changes. The <br />revision was presented, and Town Council President Warthen signed the AES Contract. <br />Ferguson Road annexation documentation is in the beginning stages and will be ready after <br />the 45 day waiting period for the second reading. <br />Some revisions are required before the Miller Pipeline contract can be signed. Dave Moore will <br />contact Miller Pipeline regarding the changes. <br />The Town Council received an engagement letter from Brown Township to explore the <br />possibility of a fire territory. The legal counsel hourly rate was set at $325.00 to start the process. <br />Stanley made the motion in favor of the hourly rate of $325.00. Councilman Swinney seconded. <br />Motion Carried 5-0 <br />Public Comments — <br />None <br />Approval of Claims - <br />Conmcilman Swinney made the motion to approve claims for $320,682.69. Councilman Stanley <br />seconded. Motion carried 5-0 <br />Town Council Comments — <br />Councilman Williams restated his desire for a public workshop before the setting of the next <br />budget. He also mentioned the willingness to have a police K-9 program and ensuring -,a'$20,009 <br />rcr year be set aside for that _.,,..,, se. setting aside $20,000 for the budget cycle. <br />Councilman Stanley stated that he has recently attended a Grant Workshop. The Town of <br />Mooresville will be teaming up with Martinsville, Morgan Couurty, and five other counties to <br />apply for additional larger grants. <br />Council President Warthen discussed the possible options for the use of the Cash Reserves. It <br />was brought up by Councilman Williams that a canine unit would be a good use of the surplus <br />funds. <br />Someone from the audience spoke on the addition of a K-9 unit, and they are in the process of <br />fundraising. <br />
