budget. Motion to increase the RECU salaries made by Matt Saner, seconded by Mark Taylor. Motion
carried.
Relay for Life submitted a Special Request form to use the Park tent for their Old Town Waverly Park
event. The setup would be Friday, October 14, with tear down being Monday, October 16. In the past,
the Park Board has approved the use of our tent. Park Board discussed. Motion to approve the Relay
for Life Request with the fee waived by David Pearson, seconded by Danny Shaw. Motion carried.
Town Council member asked if the Town should annex some of our Park properties since the county
is doing away with buffer zones at the end of the calendar year. There are six park properties in the
buffer zone. Supt. Wilson will include more details in the September Park Board meeting.
Asst. Supt. Simpson discussed with the Park Board the logistics of charging a parking fee at the
Special Event concert on September 24. Initially, when The Park Board discussed this event, the
parking fee was introduced to the Park and would receive some revenue for closing the Park. Board
discussed the pros and cons of charging parking. Consensus says not to charge a parking fee at the
September 24 concert.
The 4th of July was a success. The bands and the sound system were much improved and could be
heard from both sides of the Park. The Park was packed full, and both entrances closed at about 9:30
pm. After a wrap-up meeting, there will be a few changes for next year, including advertising that
parking lots would close at a designated time. Board Member Saner would like to see more food
trucks.
Assistant Superintendent Simpson informed the Park Board of an incident at the pool with a
concerned citizen. Pool safety is our top priority, and we will continue to work with MPD, but a
permanent police presence will not be needed.
REC&U Registration opened on Tuesday, July 5, with online registration only, and the Park Office was
available to field calls for questions. Participants are entered on a first-come, first -serve basis. There
are currently 185 individuals registered.
RECU mornings staffing is in short supply. Hopefully, the $ 2.00 -morning differential pay will help
entice applicants. School principals have been contacted regarding if their staff would be interested.
Asst. Supt. Simpson informed the Board of the new employees and returning employees. List in pre -
meeting noted
The maintenance department did a greatjob setting up and tearing down all our July 4th items. A
North Park homeowner contacted us about down limbs, and maintenance picked up all the limbs; we
are having a tree service come out and evaluate next week. Additional maintenance items are fixing
cameras in the pool parking lot, Shelter 7, grass maintenance at parks, Scout Cabin at Old Town Park
has been repainted by Boy Scouts and Shelter 3, and Shelter 7 have been mulched by a volunteer
.. .
