New Business — Tamara Mills and Holly Conner came before the council to request a street closure for the September 23rd homecoming parade. Councilman Williams made the motion to approve the request for the street closure. Councilman Swinney seconded. Motion carried 5-0 Department Head Reports— Police Chief Buckner discussed a tragic accident involving a child that morning and his discovery of a grant opportunity to fund additional patrols around school buses to enforce drivers' adherence to the laws regarding stopping school buses. Chief Dalton asked the council about the possibility of opening S. Indiana St. for a street fair on September 17th to allow businesses to use the area during the street fair. Indiana St. is already closed, and the chief acknowledges that this depends upon the movement of the demolition equipment and crew. After much discussion, Councilman Williams motioned to approve pending the department heads signing the appropriate permit paperwork. Councilman Cook Seconded. Motion carried 5-0 He also updated the council on a joint training class scheduled with Madison and Brown Township fire departments on September 26th. Chief Dalton and some of the staff will be going to the National Firefighters Memorial in October, where Chief Medsker will be honored with his name on the memorial. Kris Wilson updated the council on annexing park parcels outside the buffer zone. She plans to come before the council at the next meeting to discuss the capital improvement plan and replace the restrooms at Old Town Park. Legal — Attorney Lee wanted to address and apologize for the lack of communication with Hali Mynatt from his office regarding her concern about the 1 & 3 E. Main Street demolition. Public Comments — There were none. Approval of Claims - Councilman Stanley motioned to approve claims in the amount of $1,251,956.72. Councilman Swinney seconded. Motion carried 5-0 Town Council Comments — Councilman Williams mentioned to legal that he had provided Halie's contact information to the town attorney. He also gave an update on the 200th -anniversary committee and said that the committee envisioned the possibility of renaming a street to recognize Sammy Davis. The next meeting of the Mooresville Town Council will be held on Tuesday, September 20, 2022 at 6:30 P. M. at the Mooresville Government Center. There being no further business to come before the council at this time, a motion to adjourn was made by Councilman Stanley with a second from Councilman Williams Motion Carried 5-0.
