New Business — <br />Tamara Mills and Holly Conner came before the council to request a street closure for the September <br />23rd homecoming parade. Councilman Williams made the motion to approve the request for the street <br />closure. Councilman Swinney seconded. Motion carried 5-0 <br />Department Head Reports— <br />Police Chief Buckner discussed a tragic accident involving a child that morning and his discovery of a <br />grant opportunity to fund additional patrols around school buses to enforce drivers' adherence to the <br />laws regarding stopping school buses. <br />Chief Dalton asked the council about the possibility of opening S. Indiana St. for a street fair on <br />September 17th to allow businesses to use the area during the street fair. Indiana St. is already closed, <br />and the chief acknowledges that this depends upon the movement of the demolition equipment and <br />crew. After much discussion, Councilman Williams motioned to approve pending the department heads <br />signing the appropriate permit paperwork. Councilman Cook Seconded. Motion carried 5-0 <br />He also updated the council on a joint training class scheduled with Madison and Brown Township fire <br />departments on September 26th. <br />Chief Dalton and some of the staff will be going to the National Firefighters Memorial in October, where <br />Chief Medsker will be honored with his name on the memorial. <br />Kris Wilson updated the council on annexing park parcels outside the buffer zone. She plans to come <br />before the council at the next meeting to discuss the capital improvement plan and replace the <br />restrooms at Old Town Park. <br />Legal — <br />Attorney Lee wanted to address and apologize for the lack of communication with Hali Mynatt from his <br />office regarding her concern about the 1 & 3 E. Main Street demolition. <br />Public Comments — <br />There were none. <br />Approval of Claims - <br />Councilman Stanley motioned to approve claims in the amount of $1,251,956.72. Councilman <br />Swinney seconded. Motion carried 5-0 <br />Town Council Comments — <br />Councilman Williams mentioned to legal that he had provided Halie's contact information <br />to the town attorney. He also gave an update on the 200th -anniversary committee and said that the <br />committee envisioned the possibility of renaming a street to recognize Sammy Davis. <br />The next meeting of the Mooresville Town Council will be held on Tuesday, September 20, 2022 at 6:30 <br />P. M. at the Mooresville Government Center. <br />There being no further business to come before the council at this time, a motion to adjourn was made <br />by Councilman Stanley with a second from Councilman Williams Motion Carried 5-0. <br />
