There was some debate on the most effective course of action for street fair closures, including the <br />involvement of Town personnel and the use of town dump trucks for barricades. Councilman Brown <br />voiced his objection to paying street department employees' overtime. <br />Councilman Swinney motioned to allow Town resources and vehicles for barricades during the street <br />fairs. Councilman Cook seconded. Motion carried 5-0, <br />Department Head Reports — <br />Street Superintendent Dave Moore gave an update on the Community Crossing Grant. A new <br />stoplight is being installed at SR 67 and Merriman Road. The department is currently scouting the <br />next location for the sewer pipeline project. Councilman Witt and Dave Moore are working together <br />to explore a potential newtrash pickup service forthe town. <br />Chief Dalton provided an update on the surplus vehicle auctions. The Subaru brought in $7,100, and <br />the Ford Interceptor brought $6,450. The DNR 50/50 grant funds have been received and are now <br />being used. There are currentlythree vacancies in the fire department, with two candidates awaiting <br />background checks before progressing. <br />Legal— <br />Town Attorney Lee requested the council's direction on whether the town would like to opt in or out <br />of the new opioid settlement. Councilman Swinney made a motion to opt in, and Councilman Brown <br />seconded. The motion carried 5-0. <br />Public Comments — <br />Dave Snyder came before the Council to congratulate the Mooresville High School Baseball team. <br />He shared his displeasure about the traffic on West Washington during the street fairs. He said he <br />would like an alternate location for the street fairs. <br />Rob Samuels came before the council to voice his displeasure over the budget discussion process. <br />He would like to see public budget hearings and all council members involved in the budget's <br />decision-making. <br />Councilman Swinney made the motion to approve claims for $875,944.22. Councilman Brown <br />seconded. Motion carried 5-0. <br />Councilman Swinney motioned to approve payroll clearing for $230,435.08. Councilman Brown <br />seconded. The motion carried 5-0. <br />The next regular scheduled meeting of the Mooresville Town Council will beheld on Tuesday, July 2, <br />2024 at 6:30 P.M. at the Mooresville Government Center. <br />With no further business to come before the council at this time, Councilman Swinney made a <br />motion to adjourn with a second from Councilman Witt.
