0 <br />MONTHLY MOORESVILLE PARK BOARD MEETING MINUTES <br />August 12, 2024 <br />6. NEW BUSINESS <br />6.1 The Victorian Christmas Team is requesting to move horsedrawn carriage rides to Pioneer <br />Park for the safety of the riders and horses. They also aim to enhance the holiday spirit by <br />decorating the carriage ride path with artificial Christmas trees. Local businesses will be <br />approached to decorate the trees, similar to the pole decoration done downtown in <br />previous years. The initiative will contribute to the town's decor and help raise funds for <br />Victorian Christmas and Churches in Mission. The trees will be set up on November 22nd <br />and removed by December 11th, with around 30 trees expected to be involved in the <br />project. <br />6.1.2 Upon motion by Brent Callahan, seconded by Danny Shaw, the board voted 7/0 to <br />approve the horsedrawn carriage rides and artificial trees in Pioneer Park for Victorian <br />Christmas. <br />6.2 A representative from Thomas Moore Church is requesting to place a banner at the <br />intersection of Indianapolis and Samuel Moore. The banner will display event details for <br />September Fest and will be installed by our staff. <br />6.2.1 Upon motion by Mark Taylor and seconded by Danny Shaw, the board voted 6/0 to <br />agree to the sign placement with Tim Bennett's approval. Danny Lundy, abstain. <br />6.3 Staff is requesting approval to hire 9 new employees for the RECU before and after school <br />program. Please refer to the separate RFA document for more details. <br />6.3.1 Upon motion by Lynn Adams and seconded by Danny Lundy, the board voted 7/0 to <br />ratify the hiring of all positions listed in RFA 6.3. <br />6.4 The park staff are seeking permission to purchase property at 531 E. County Line <br />Road. The Town Council president has been consulted, and we plan to request <br />approval for buying the property first. The agreed price is $85,000, and we intend <br />to request the full purchase amount from food and beverage funds initially. If <br />necessary, we will ask the council for a 50/50 split. We can cover the additional <br />expense of $42,500 from our non -reverting reserves. <br />6.4.1. Upon motion by Brent Callahan, seconded by Mark Taylor the board voted 7/0 to <br />purchase 531 E County Line Road for $85,000, plus other incidental expenses, and make <br />Philip Cornelius — Parks Superintendent the authorized signature at purchase. <br />7. DEPARTMENT REPORTS <br />7.1 Assistant Superintendent Report <br />7.1.1 The Aquatic Center has officially closed for the season. We were slightly below last <br />year's visits; lots of wet weather kept folks away this year. We will begin planning for <br />
