MINUTES OF THE BOARD OF METROPOLITAN POLICE COMMISSIONERS MEETING JULY 17, 2003 The meeting was opened with the Pledge of Allegiance. In attendance were; Commissioners Dennis Knierim, Dean Kays, and Chuck Berwick. Also, Chief Viles and Tim Currens. Dr. Knierim welcomed everyone to the July 17t~ Mooresvflle Police Commissioners Meeting. Commissioner Berwick motioned to accept the minutes from the last meeting. Dean Kays seconded. Minutes were accepted. OLD BUSINESS: . . Jeremy Boardman turned., down the lob.offer. Dr. Knie .'.ri~. wants to start the hiring vrocess over from a new list. The commissioners would like to_find someone with ~xperience and that has been through the academy. We.h, ave 6 resumes ox people that have experience. There are two that should be co.nsldered, Captain Allen will get backgrounds and resumes together for the Comnmsioners by the next meeting. There could possibly be a decision made at the next meeting. The two officers in the academy now, will be finished 8-18-2003. One new officer will go to 3~ shift and the other to 2ad shift. NEW BUSINESS: S.O.P. #20.00-Off Dutv/Extra Duty . The first of every yea~, officers are required to fill out a work permit. If an officer only works a job 1 time, a work permit. ~ not.r~.~ If the officer is going to work that job a second time, a work permit m reqmm~ Page 6, article #7-Reporting requirements. Dr. Knierim needed clarification on A. A & B nexis to be re-written. Dean Kays had a question about #5. Chief Vfles clarified both. Kays wanted it "spelled out more" in the S.O.P. Berwick wanted the Volunteer Section tal~n out of the S.O.P. He wants it to say "Job related volunteer work". #C-ok O6-Changed from Bridge Commander to Shift Commander. F.
