MINUTES OF THE BOARD OF METROPOLITAN POLICE <br /> COMMISSIONERS MEETING <br /> <br /> JUNE 19, 2003 <br /> <br />The meeting was opened with the Pledge of Allegiance. In attendance were; <br />Commissioners Knierim, Dean Kays, and Chuck Berwick. Also, ChiefViles, Captain <br />Allen, and Attorney Tim Currens. <br /> <br />Dr. Knierim welcomed everyone to the June 19m Mooresville Police Commissioners <br />meeting. <br /> <br />Commissioner Kays motioned to accept the minutes from the last meeting, Commissioner <br />Berwick seconded. <br /> <br />OLD BUSINESS: <br />Larry Mason has been approved for disability for 1 year, beginning 6/10/2003 through <br />6/10/2004. Paperwork will then be resubmitted by his Doctor. At that time he could go to <br />a regular pension. <br /> <br />The Old Settlers Parade will be on 8/3/2003. Prior to the parade, there will be inspection <br />and a luncheon. Captain Allen will put out a detail list. <br /> <br />NEW BUSINESS: <br /> SOP 20-tabled until the next meeeting/Off Duty & Extra Duty. <br /> <br /> Hiring/New position (replacement for Larry Mason) <br /> ChiefViles and Captain Allen asked that Jeremy Boardman be considered from the <br /> previous list. Submitting Boardman's name to the academy for the September class was <br /> discussed. ChiefViles suggested bringing Boardman on the fu'st pay period in August. <br /> Kays suggested offering him the position based on the contingency of 40 hour Pre-Basic, <br /> and possibly starting in August or November, depending on when we could get him into <br /> the academy. Berwick motioned to hire in November for January school with the <br /> possibility of getting him in the September class. Captain Allen will call the academy <br /> tomorrow. Kays seconded. It was approved. Captain Allen will call Jeremy Boardman <br /> and offer him the position. <br /> <br /> PROMOTIONS: 2 Lieutenants positions are open. People who are interested and eligible, <br /> with the minimum required time as a Sergeant are; Sgt. Jim Bolin and Sgt. John Forbes. <br /> The executive officers submitted to the Chief their suggestions for Lt. and Sgt. positions. <br /> Chief Viles asked the Commissioners to promote Forbes and Bolin tonight. Kays <br /> motioned to offer Bolin and Forbes the Lt. positions. Berwick seconded. ChiefViles <br /> asked the Commissioners to promote a Sergeant tonight. He submitted the name of Barry <br /> <br /> <br />
