MINUTES OF THE BOARD OF METROPOLITAN POLICE <br /> COMMISSIONERS MEETING <br /> <br /> MAY 15, 2003 <br /> <br /> The meeting was opened with the Pledge of Allegiance. In attendance were; <br /> Commissioners Dennis Knierim, Chuck Berwick, and Dean Kays, ChiefViles, and Tim <br /> Currens. <br /> <br /> Dr. Knierim welcomed everyone to the May 15t~ Mooresville Police Commissioners <br /> meeting. <br /> <br /> Commissioner Kays motioned to approve the minutes fi.om the last meeting. <br /> Commissioner Berwick seconded. <br /> <br /> OLD BUSINESS: <br />Disciplinary hearing-nothing new to report since the last meeting. <br /> <br />NEW BUSINESS: <br />SOP 19.00-Equipment/Uniforms <br />There was a question as to whether or not body armor was mandatory. Body armor is <br />provided by the department, however it is not mandatory. It is believed that 99% of the <br />department, does wear their vest. The color of socks was also discussed. Black or blue <br />must be worn. <br /> <br />Page 1 O-pins on uniforms/placement was discussed. <br />2 pins instead of three/strike the marksman pin. <br />Dean Kays motioned to accept the changes made to SOP, Chuck Berwick seconded. <br /> <br />Old Settlers will be 8/3/2003, 1 st Sunday in August. There will be an inspection prior to <br />the parade. <br /> <br />The number of false alarms were discussed and what could be done to bring this number <br />down. Basically, educating on putting in the correct code, which seems to be the most <br />common problem with businesses. Also, alarm permits were discussed, the cost, issuing <br />tickets to permit holders either delinquent, or that have an excess amount of false alarms. <br /> <br />The next meeting is scheduled for June 19, 2003. <br /> <br />Commissioner Kays motioned to adjourn, Commissioner Berwick seconded. <br /> <br /> <br />
