In attendance were;
Commissioners Dennis Knierim, Dean Kays, and Chuck Berwick. Also, ChiefViles,
Captain Allen, and Tim Currens.

Dr. Knierim welcomed everyone to the August 21~t Mooresville Police Commissioners
Meeting.

Commissioner Berwick motioned to accept the minutes fi:om the last meeting.
Commissioner Kays seconded.

NEW BUSINESS
Captain Allen has talked to Robert Jones about being a Reserve for Mooresville. He has
already been through the Johnson Co. Reserve Academy. He currently works for Morgan
Co. Sheriff's Department. Captain Allen would like to recommend him as a re[!lacement
for Larry Bryant's position as a Reserve. There is enough in the budget for a 4u' Reserve.
Commissioner Kays mentioned Tyler Stahley as a possible Reserve. Tyler will be 21 in
October and is interested in being a Reserve.

Commissioner Kays said he wasn't comfortable with the 40 hours mining for the
Reserves and feels it should be 240 hours. Tim Currens will get something written up in
regards to training for the Reserves.

OLD BUSINESS
21st Officer: Captain Allen has 6 candidates for the 21~t position. 5 of the candidates are
ILEA graduates. 1 is a US Customs Agent. The Academy is looking in to waiving him,
(He is a Federal Law Enforcement Agent). The Commissioners want backgrounds before
the next meeting. They also want it narrowed down to 3 people for interviews. There will
be an Executive Session before the next meeting to discuss the candidates.

Commissioner Kays discussed the new hires and how Jeremy Boardman was offered a
position, but turned it down. Kays recently talked to an ILEA graduate who was highly
recommended, and was interested in coming to Mooresville. When he learned what our
pay was, he stated that he couldn't work for that kind of money. The Commissioners
agreed that our salary is not competitive with the salary of other agencies.
