MOORESVILLE BOARD OF ZONING APPEALS <br /> MINUTES <br /> THURSDAY, JANUARY 10, 2002 <br /> <br />The Board of Zoning Appeals met on Thursday, January 10, 2002, at 7:30 P.M. at the <br />Mooresville Town Hall. <br /> <br />Member present were: Don Barry, Chairman, Mike Young, Alan Kramer, and Jon <br />Swisher. Jeff Justus was absent. Town Attorney, Tim Currens was present. <br /> <br />Motion was made to approve the minutes as amended for the December 13, 2001 meeting <br />by Mike Young, second by Alan Kramer. Motion carried 4-0. <br /> <br />Next on the agenda was Mr. David Williams, 14 Sawyer Road, Northboro, Mass., <br />representing Nation Rents, requesting a variance for an addition of 1200 sq. ft. to the <br />existing Lowe's Home Improvement building at State Road 67 and Bridge Street. Nation <br />Rents formed an agreement approximately two years ago to add their business to the <br />Lowe's building to rent tools to their customers. Nation Rents has 230 locations across <br />the country, 40 of these stories are in front of Lowe's. There will be an over-hang on the <br />front of the store consisting of 800 sq. ft. for their retail business, 400 sq. ft. for service <br />area for cleaning and repairing the tools when returned and small fenced in area for <br />storage of small equipment. Most of their stores carry tools ranging from small tools, up <br />to heavy equipment, but this store will only will only carry small tools and light <br />equipment. They also was asking for 184 sq. ft. of additional signage, consisting of one <br />sign by the door, and one sign over the building and 2 signs of pilasters. Their hours will <br />coincide with Lowe's. <br /> <br /> There being no questions from the board or the floor a motion was made by Mr. Jon <br /> Swisher, second by Mr. Mike Young, to approve the variance to Nation Rents to add <br /> 1200 sq. ft. to the Lowe's PUD to operate a second business on Lot 1 and for 184 Sq. ft. <br /> of additional signage. Motion carried 4-0. <br /> <br /> Next was Shannon and Teresa Kan:, 10890 N. Interurban Lane, requesting a variance to <br /> operate a part-time auto repair business with signage. They own a home with 8 acres at <br /> this address and would like to build a 30 foot by 60 foot building to operate the auto <br /> repair business. The operating hours would be from 6:00 P. M. to 10:00 P.M., Monday <br /> thru Friday, and no weekends. The business will be maintenance on cars and light tracks, <br /> such as oil changes, tire and brake work. They would not do engine or transmission <br /> overhaul. The sign would be a small sign with their name and phone number. They <br /> would comply with the ordinance for signage. <br /> <br /> Mr. Jon Swisher asked about the current zoning and was told the property is zoned <br /> Agriculture, the variance would be to allow business which is considered a B-3 business. <br /> <br /> From the floor Mr. Dwayne Alleman, 2319 Crosby Road, was speaking in opPosition to <br /> the business the Karr's are proposing.
