Motion was made by Councilman Hensley, second by Councilman Dolen <br />to accept the EDC Budget as suggested. Motion carried unanimously. <br /> <br />At this point, Town Council President Mark Mathis informed the <br />Council he would not be able to continue as the acting Director' <br />of Economic Development, and suggested the Town Council might <br />want to advertise for the position. After some discussion motion <br />was made by Councilman Hensley, second by Councilman Wright to <br />advertise and accept resumes for an EDC Director. Motion carried <br />unanimously. <br /> <br />The Fire Department Budget was next to be reveiwed. The Training <br />Officer position was changed to Assistant Chief. The Assistant <br />Chief salary will be $27,000. The Chief's salary will be <br />raised $2,000. Als0, a 2% increase in the full-time firemen <br />salaries. <br /> <br />Motion was made by Councilman Wright, second by Councilman Dolen <br />to accept the suggested 1997 Fire Department Budget. <br /> <br />The Police Department 1997 Suggested Budget deleted the Assistant <br />Chief position, gave a $2,000 increase to the Police Chief,and a <br />2% increase to each full-time employee in the Police Department, <br />and deleted the purchase of two (2) police cars. <br /> <br />Chief of Police Tim Viles stated he included the purchase of two <br />police cars in the Budget for 1997 to keep the fleet up to date and <br />reduce maintenance costs. He also stated the new Police Station <br />puts more of a load on the Budget. <br /> <br />Motion was made by Councilman Wright, second by Councilman Hensley <br />to accept the suggested Police Department Budget for 1997 including <br />the changes. Motion carried unanimously. <br /> <br /> Councilman Pygman read the Suggested Budget for 1997 for the Park <br /> & Recreation. The increase in wages asked for were cut in half, <br /> the Concession Supply amount was cut in half, Overtime was reduced, <br /> and the $35,000 for a new tractor was deleted. Sixty-six thousand <br /> dollars was deleted from the 1997 budget. <br /> <br /> Motion was made by Councilman Dolen, second by Councilman Hensley <br /> to accept the suggested Budget as changed. Motion carried 4-1. <br /> Councilman Wright opposed. The tractor in the Capital Outlays will <br /> be addressed later possibly using monies from the Food and Beverage <br /> Tax. <br /> <br /> Town Court Budget for 1997-- Judge Sterrett asked to at least be <br /> able to get his 3% back in a salary increase for his 457K. The <br /> Judge's salary will remain the same, the clerks get a 2% increase <br /> in wages. Motion was made by Councilman Dolen, second by <br /> Councilman Pygman to accept the suggested Town Court 1997 Budget <br /> as is. Motion carried unanimously. <br /> <br /> There being no further business to come before the Council at this <br /> time motion was made by Councilman Dolen, second by Councilman <br /> Wright to adjourn. Motion carried unanimously. <br /> <br /> The next regular scheduled meeting of the Mooresville Town Council <br /> will be Monday, August 19, 1996 at 7:30 P. M. at the Mooresville <br /> Town Hall.
