RESOLUTION NO. 2-2024 <br />A RESOLUTION ESTABLISHING A SECTION ON <br />ILT,IS] 01tfolW']IYR00�II <br />AS SAMMY L. DAVIS MEDAL OF HONOR WAY IN THE TOWN OF <br />MOORESVILLE, INDIANA <br />WHEREAS, the Town of Mooresville has been home to a number of notable figures <br />and heroes; and <br />WHEREAS, on such hero is Sergeant Sammy Lee Davis; and <br />WHEREAS, Sergeant Davis graduated from Mooresville High School in 1966; and <br />WHEREAS, after graduation, Sergeant Davis enlisted in the United States Army; <br />and <br />WHEREAS, Sergeant Davis fought in the Vietnam War as part of the 9'h Infantry <br />Division; and <br />WHEREAS, Sergeant Davis, despite being wounded, acted heroically to provide <br />cover fire and rescue several American soldiers; and <br />WHEREAS, in recognition for Sergeant Davis' service and actions, he has been <br />awarded a Silver Star, two Purple Hearts, and the Medal of Honor; and <br />WHEREAS, the Town of Mooresville wishes to honor one of its heroes with the <br />establishing a section of Monroe Street, in Mooresville, Indiana as Sergeant Sammy L. <br />Davis Way. <br />NOW THEREFORE, be it resolved by the Town Council of the Town of <br />Mooresville, Indiana that <br />Section 1. The Town of Mooresville, Indiana, an Indiana municipal <br />corporation, hereby recognizes the amazing and heroic contributions of Sergeant Sammy <br />Lee Davis; <br />Section 2. The Town of Mooresville hereby recognizes Monroe Street, from <br />Carlisle Street to Main Street as "Sammy L. Davis Medal of Honor Way'; <br />Section 3. This Resolution shall be in effect immediately upon passage by the <br />Town Council. <br />
