<br />section and the Act be in conflict, the requirements of the <br />more restrictive shall apply. <br /> <br />5. Exempt signs. The following types of signs shall be <br />exempted from requlrements of this subsection: i) signs not <br />exceeqing one square foot in area and bearing only property <br />numbers, post box numbers, and names of occupants oÎ <br />premises. ii) flags and insignia of any government exce~t <br />when displayed in connection with commercial promotion; lii) <br />legal notices, identification information, or directional <br />signs erected by or at the direction of governmental bodies; <br />iv) integral decoration or architectural features of <br />buildings, except letters, trademarks, movin9 parts or moving <br />li9hts; v) signs directing and guiding trafflc in parking on <br />prlvate property, but bearing no advertising matter or logos. <br /> <br />B. SIGNS <br />Signs are permitted in all districts subject to the <br />restrictions of the district in which the si9n is located as <br />established by this section, plus the followlng general re- <br />quirements that shall also apply to all signs: <br /> <br />1. Whenever the area of any sign is limited by this <br />section, a double faced sign may be erected having the <br />allowed sign area on each side of the structure, provided <br />that the maximum dimensions between the two faces of the sign <br />shall not exceed two feet. <br /> <br />2. No sign shall be located closer than 30 feet from an <br />abutting residential use. <br /> <br />3. Signs may be painted on the surface of a building, <br />provided that when such a sign is located so that it faces a <br />residential use, the sign and method of lighting shall be <br />approved by the Board. Not more than 400 square feet of <br />total sign area shall be permitted on anyone building wall. <br /> <br />4. No part of any sign, whether freestanding or <br />attached to a building, shall exceed the height requirements <br />of the district as established in Chapter 3 of this ordinance <br />or 35 feet, whichever is less. <br /> <br />5. Any projecting wall sign with its advertising <br />surface at an angle to a wall facing a street shall be deemed <br />to be a vertical sign. No vertical sign shall project beyond <br />the curb of any adjacent street. All vertical signs shall <br />have at least 8 feet of clearance above the ground. <br /> <br />6. The minimum setback of freestanding signs from <br />street rights-of-way shall be not less than those given in <br />the following table: <br /> <br />53 <br />
