Thaler questioning whether the sign could be placed on the house. Chairman Oschman
asked for any coments from the floor and no remonstrators were present. The Board's
Attorney advised that notices were in order and the Board proceeded to discuss this
matter. Paul Walters then made a finding that the variance meets the requirements
set out in Indiana Code for the variance from use standards and moved that the
variance be granted with the exception of the sign, stating that a maximum of
five square feet for the sign should be part of the variance and that all set-backs
standards be met. This was seconded by Wendell Thaler and unanimously carried.

The next item to come before the Board was the petition of Harlan and

Ruth Sterrett requesting a variance to locate a sign on their premises for business
purposes. Mr. and Mrs. Sterrett were present in person and advised that they
resided at 1021 State Road 144, Mooresville, Indiana. The Sterretts were present
for a:variance earlier this year in April and the variance was granted but no sign
was allowed. Mr. Sterrett stated that people are now having trouble finding his
property and that due to the traffic on 144 this was a problem. He also stated
that a sign creates new business and he only wants to put a sign against the house.
Mr. Sterrett introduced an Exhibit "A", a petition signed by all neighbors but

Mr. Hamm. He also introduced Exhibit "B", which was picture showing a turn around
in the drive. He also stated that the Hamm property was not visible from his home
and the neighbors on each side have no problems with the sign. He also stated

Mr. Inlow who owned the property in back of him had not signed the petition. Lastly,
he stated that the customers normally come for installation by appointment so there
is not a great amount of traffic and that he does have a sign of sorts on his mailbox.
The Board opened up the meeting for remonstrators.

Mr. Harmn of 1029 State Road 144 said that this petition was started
immediately after the last meeting and there was not sufficient time to show there
was a decline in his business. Also he stated that since most jobs were by appoint-
ment the people could find their way back once they had been there. Mr. Hamm
stated that at the prior meeting the objection he raised was the traffic problem
and that after hearing the evidence he agreed to the variance as granted without the

-2-
