have no affect whatsoever. He went on to state that the solution to the Wellwood
water problem areas would be either a waterline from private company or to install
a well in a valley next to the Wellwood area and pump the water from the valley
uphill.

The Board then made some inquiries of Dr. Powell about the flow of water in
the area and the affect of any hydraulic connection between the two areas. Dr.
Powell explained that these would have no affect on the Wellwood water condition
according to his findings. He then entered petitioner's Exhibit "E", a map show-
ing water availability in the ~oresville/Morgan County area published in 1964 by
John N. Heckered. He pointed out the Wellwood area and the well information as to
this particular area. Wendell Thaler then inquired of Dr. Powell and his knowledge
of Bill Stern of the Indiana Division of Water. Dr. Powell said that Bill Stern
was quite knowledgeable and an expert in the water area, in fact one of the two
most knowledgeable on this topic in his opinion.

Sam Korn, one of the attorneys for the remonstrators, then asked Dr. Powell
about the hydrological connection and potential migration of water from the area
where the proposed mining operation would be located back through the glacial drift
area and to the shale area where Wellwood is located. Dr. Powell said it was
highly unlikely this would occur, since the water would flow on down through the
water shed, which would be located below. He stated that the bulk of all water would
migrate down the valley. Attorney Dave Lawson then asked Dr. Powell whether or not
the gravel removal operation would create any polution. Dr. Powell stated to his
knowledge none, that only if raw sewage from the Town Sewer Plant was discharged
and carried through flood waters into the gravel pit would there be polution in
said water from any outside source that he was aware of.

-7-
