. -- .' , i I , , I' ,/ II I I /, 224.10 Waters or wastes containing substances which are not amen- able to treatment or reduction by the sewage treatment pro- cesses employed, or are amenable to treatment only to such degree that the sewage treatment plant effluent cannot meet the requirements of other agencies having jurisdiction over discharge to the receiving waters. 224.9 (4) Unusual volume of flow or concentration of wastes constituting "slugs" as defined herein. ... 225. . If any waters or wastes are discharged, or are proposed to be dis- charged, to the public sewers, which waters contain the substance or possess the characteristics enumerated in Paragraph 224 herein- above, and which in the judgment of the Superintendent may have a deleterious effect ,upon the sewage works, processes, equipment, or receiving waters, or which otherwise create a hazard to life or, constitute a public nuisance, the Superintendent shall: r 225.1 Require new industries or industries with significant in- crease in discharges to submit information on wastewater characteristics and obtain prior approval for discharges. " , I 225.2 Require other methods of disposal; and/or 225.3 Reqùire pretreatment to an acceptable condition for dis- charge to the public sewersj and/or 225.4 Require control over the quantities and rates of discharge; and/ or " 225.5 Require fscilities to prevent accidental dischsrge of any unacceptable wastesj and . 225.6 Require payment to cover the added cost of handling and treating the wastes not covered by sewer charges under the provisions of Ordinance No. 7-1974 of said Town and all ordinances amendatory thereof and supplemental thereto, and any fines, penal ties, or damages assessed against the Town for discharge of such wastes. 226. If the Superintendent permits the pretreatment or equalization of waste flows, the design and installation of the plans and equipment shall be subject to the review and approval of the Superintendent and subject to the requirements of all applicable codes, ordi- nances, and laws. l 227. Any industrial wastes discharged into the public sewers shall be subject to periodic inspection and determination of volume, char- acter, and concentration. TIle examination shall be made as often as the Superintendent deems it necess~ry and may include the use of suitable continuously monitoring instruments in appropriate cases.
