No building sewer shall be laid parallel to or within three feet of any bearing wall, which might thereby be weakened. The depth shall be suffi- cient to afford protection from frost. The bUilding sewer shall be laid at a uniform grade and in straight alignment insofar as possi- ble. Changes in direction shall be made only with properly curved pipes and fittings. ,It 214. In all buildings in which any building drain is too low to permit gravity flow to the public sewer, sanitary seWage carried by such drsins shall be lifted b~ approved artificial means and discharged to the building sewer. 21S. All excavations required for the installation of a building sewer, shall be open trench work, unless otherwise approved by the Inspec- tor. Pipe laying and backfill shall be performed in accordance with ASTM specifications applicable to the type of pipe being used, except that no backfill shall be placed until the work has been inspected by the Inspector or his representative. 216. All joints and connections shall be made gas tight and watertight, and as governed by the Indiana Uniform Plumbing Code in effect as of the date of adoption of this Ordinance, and any provisions thereof which may be amendatory thereof' or supplemental thereto from time to time hereafter. 216.1 Joints in vitrified clay pipe and f J.ttings shall be O-ring type compression joint or the low profile type compression joint utilizing a factory applied PVC collar or bell and a factory applied resilient ,polyurethane compression seal on the spigot end of the pipe. Joints shall meet or exceed all requirements of ASTM Designation C-425, lstest revision. . 216.2 Joints on PVC pipe and fittings shall be the integral bell type and shall comply with all physical requirements of ASTM Designations D-1869, C-361, and C-443, latest revision. :'...,.. , , 216.3 Joints on ABS pipe and fittings shall be the solvent weld type conforming to all requirements of ASTM Designation D-2680, latest revision. 216.4 Joints on ductile iron and cast iron pipe shall be the push- on type conforming to AWWA Designation C-151, latest revi- sion. Fittings shall be ,cast iron and shall comply with ANSI Specification A21.10, latest revision, with push-on or mechanical joints. l 216.5 Other jointing materials and methods may be used only upon the approval of the Superintendent. ,217. The connection of the building sewer into the public sewer shall be made at the Ny" branch or "Tee" connection, if such branch 1s available at a suitable location.
