Commissioner Knierim also discussed making revisions to the current hiring
SOP. He requested that Chief Viles start on that SOP and present it to the
Commission in the future.
Chief Viles advised the Commission that an officer is currently involved in
the hiring process for the IMPD. Commissioner Knierim asked about the
remaining candidates on the list. Chief Viles wanted to know if they wanted
to hire off of the old SOP and use the list or did they want to hire someone
off of the new SOP. Commissioner Berwick expressed his concerns
regarding the time frame and the time constraints that we were under the last
hiring process. Commissioner Kays stated that he was impressed with one of
the remaining candidates and that he had spoke to the candidate regarding
the minor problem with his background.
Commissioner Knierim asked if we wanted to re-open the process and re- ti
interview the candidates. Commissioner Knierim also stated that it might be
best to hire under the current SOP and then consider the new SOP as a work
in process. Chief Viles stated that he would look at Plainfield's and if the
commission wanted, he would also look at several other departments.
Commissioner Berwick inquired about doing background checks on the
remaining candidates. Chief Viles advised him that the two remaining on the
list have already completed the background checks.
Commissioner Knierim inquired about the two probation officers at ILEA.
Chief Viles stated that they were doing well.
Chief Viles asked Town Attorney Tim Currens about the role of a Town
Manager and would it conflict with the Police Commission. Attorney
Currens stated that there would not be any issues, that the Police
Commission would run as normal.
Chief Viles also requested information regarding the Alarm Ordinance and
it's passing with the Town Board. Attorney Currens stated that he was
working on the resolution of the current Alarm Ordinance.
