( Chief Viles explained that the Reserve Division would be very strong with four officers <br /> patrolling. Chief Viles also explained that he is using two of the officers(Overton and <br /> Johnson)to assist in covering shifts due to the manpower shortage. Chief Viles explained <br /> that both officers are either riding with another officer or they are patrolling by <br /> themselves. Chief Viles also advised that the Reserves are also doing more as far as <br /> taking reports,traffic investigations and other aspects of the job. <br /> Chief Viles also spoke about the upcoming retirement of Lt. James Bolin and requested <br /> to start the process for a new Lieutenant. All three commissioners agreed to begin the <br /> process however the promotion would not take place until Lt. Bolin was retired. Chief <br /> Viles also requested to start the process for a new Sergeant, not to be filled until a <br /> Lieutenant is promoted. <br /> Chief Viles explained that the written testing was completed for the new hires and that 9 <br /> of the 12 passed. Chief Viles explained that the interviews have been scheduled for <br /> February 10, 2007. The Commissioners agreed that whoever passes the interviews should <br /> be brought before them,whether it is 5 or 6 officers. Chief Viles explained that any 9, <br /> officer that we hire will have to attend to the academy and that the soonest they could go <br /> was July of 2007. <br /> Chief Viles explained that the department has received six(6)2007 Ford Crown <br /> Victorias and at this time they are having Keyless Entries installed. All the vehicles have <br /> already been striped and once the installation is done they will be sent to Officer Randy <br /> Rogers to have radios, light bars and other items installed. The following officers will be <br /> given a new car: <br /> - Lt. Mel Paris <br /> - Sgt. Mark D.Harris <br /> - Officer Ronald W. Cooper <br /> - Officer Jeff M. Cook <br /> - Officer Bryan McGauhey <br /> - Officer Annette Downing <br /> Chief Viles requested to have two reserve cars instead of one reserve car. Chief Viles <br /> stated that he would like to have a duty roster for the Reserve Officers and it would show <br /> the cars that are available. All three commissioners agreed to have two reserve cars. <br /> Commissioner Kays wanted to comment on the outstanding job that Officer Ronald <br /> Cooper did in solving a theft. Chief Viles stated that Officer Cooper took a theft report <br /> from Brown Township Ambulance service,which is outside our jurisdiction. Officer <br /> Cooper through excellent police work was able to locate the item on EBay, set up a ;I <br /> meeting to buy the item, identified it as Brown Township's and was able to obtain a full <br /> confession from the suspect. All commissioners agreed that Officer Cooper did an <br /> excellent job and Chief Viles stated that he would let Officer Cooper know. <br /> Commissioner Kays stated that they are still looking to find a garage for Officer Rogers <br /> 6 to install the new equipment.
