Minutes of the Metropolitan Police Commissioners Meeting February 15, 2007 The meeting was opened with the Pledge of Allegiance. Dr. Knierim welcomed everyone to the meeting. In attendance were Chief Viles, Executive Director Larry Brinker (Plainfield Police Department) and Commissioners Berwick, Kays and Knierim. Commissioner Kays motioned to approve the minutes from January's meeting. Commissioner Berwick seconded the motion. Old Business Chief Viles spoke about the promotion process for the New Lieutenant. Chief stated that he advertised the open position per SOP and that he has received two letters from the officers eligible. Chief stated that he spoke to Captain Allen about the Executive Board that will be made of the three current Lieutenants, Captain Allen and himself. Chief stated that Lt. Bolin will be retiring effective March 31, 2007 and what he would like to is have the meeting with the Executive Board, make the recommendation to the Police Commission and have the Police Commission have their interviews and then name the new Lieutenant at the March meeting. Chief'Viles also stated that once they promote a Lieutenant that a Sergeant's position would become open. Chief Viles stated that he would like approval to advertise the Sergeant's position. Commissioner Knierim and Chief Viles spoke briefly about the promotion process for Sergeant. All agreed that they would take the five from the earlier promotion process and accept anyone else who would like to apply for the position. Chief Viles spoke briefly about the New Hire Process and that there were 9 applicants that were interviewed by Lt. Bolin, Sgt. Harris and Officer Anderson. Chief Viles stated that there is the possibility that we will have two openings for ILEA in March instead of one. Chief Viles stated that he asked Captain Allen to proceed by sending all 9 applicants the information packet to start the background checks. Chief Viles stated that he would like
