Minutes of the Metropolitan Police <br /> Commissioners Meeting <br /> February 15, 2007 <br /> The meeting was opened with the Pledge of Allegiance. Dr. Knierim <br /> welcomed everyone to the meeting. In attendance were Chief Viles, <br /> Executive Director Larry Brinker (Plainfield Police Department) and <br /> Commissioners Berwick, Kays and Knierim. <br /> Commissioner Kays motioned to approve the minutes from January's <br /> meeting. Commissioner Berwick seconded the motion. <br /> Old Business <br /> Chief Viles spoke about the promotion process for the New Lieutenant. <br /> Chief stated that he advertised the open position per SOP and that he has <br /> received two letters from the officers eligible. Chief stated that he spoke to <br /> Captain Allen about the Executive Board that will be made of the three <br /> current Lieutenants, Captain Allen and himself. Chief stated that Lt. Bolin <br /> will be retiring effective March 31, 2007 and what he would like to is have <br /> the meeting with the Executive Board, make the recommendation to the <br /> Police Commission and have the Police Commission have their interviews <br /> and then name the new Lieutenant at the March meeting. <br /> Chief'Viles also stated that once they promote a Lieutenant that a Sergeant's <br /> position would become open. Chief Viles stated that he would like approval <br /> to advertise the Sergeant's position. Commissioner Knierim and Chief Viles <br /> spoke briefly about the promotion process for Sergeant. All agreed that they <br /> would take the five from the earlier promotion process and accept anyone <br /> else who would like to apply for the position. <br /> Chief Viles spoke briefly about the New Hire Process and that there were 9 <br /> applicants that were interviewed by Lt. Bolin, Sgt. Harris and Officer <br /> Anderson. Chief Viles stated that there is the possibility that we will have <br /> two openings for ILEA in March instead of one. Chief Viles stated that he <br /> asked Captain Allen to proceed by sending all 9 applicants the information <br /> packet to start the background checks. Chief Viles stated that he would like <br />
