Chief Viles stated all 9 applications <br /> have done well and that the department is in good shape for picking a new <br /> officer or two. <br /> Chief Viles stated that the background packets are to be in by February 24" <br /> and he suggested that the interviews could he done first and then the <br /> commissioners could look over the background packets. Commissioner <br /> Knierim stated that they could look over the backgrounds after the <br /> interviews and that they could tell all the interviewees that no decision <br /> would be made until the commissioners could look over the background <br /> packets. <br /> Commissioner Berwick stated that the interviews needed to be done soon so <br /> that we could have one officer and possibly two ready to send to ILEA on <br /> March 20`h. Chief Viles stated that he spoke to Sandy Perry (Clerk- <br /> Treasurer) and she stated that it would be okay to hire an officer to replace <br /> Lt. Bolin before he retired if two positions were available at ILEA. <br /> Commissioner Knierim stated that he would like to interview the top five <br /> and Chief Viles stated that he would present the top five to the <br /> Commissioners based on their scores on the written test and <br /> recommendations from the Interview Board. Commissioner Knierim agreed <br /> that that would be fine. <br /> Commissioner Knierim stated that the interviews would be on February 24th <br /> beginning at 9am and they would interview 3 an hour. Commissioner <br /> Knierim also stated that they would interview the two candidates for <br /> Lieutenant also on the 24th beginning at 1:30 pin. <br /> New Business <br /> Chief Viles introduced Larry Brinker, Executive Director of the Plainfield <br /> Police Department as the guest speaker. Chief Viles stated that Larry was <br /> invited to speak to the Police Commission regarding CALEA. Larry spoke <br /> about the advantages and disadvantages of the CALEA program. Larry <br /> stated that the advantages were the following: <br /> • Saves money on insurance plans for the police department <br /> • Lawsuit payouts decrease <br /> • More professional department <br />
