Minutes of the Metropolitan Police <br /> Commissioners Meeting <br /> October 16, 2008 <br /> The meeting was opened with the Pledge of Allegiance. Commissioner Berwick <br /> welcomed everyone to the meeting. Present were Chief Viles, Town Board Member Jeff <br /> Cook, Commissioners Berwick, Kays and Bryant, Town Attorney Timothy Currens. <br /> Commissioner Kays motioned for the minutes to he approved and Commissioner Bryant <br /> seconded. <br /> Old Business <br /> Chief Viles presented the revised SOP 8.04 — "Police Vehicle Passengers" for the <br /> Commissioners to review and sign. All three Commissioners signed the revised SOP and <br /> its effective date with be October 16, 2008. <br /> Chief Viles advised the Commissioners that the next ILEA class would begin on <br /> February 16, 2009. Chief Viles advised that when he had spoken to the representative <br /> from ILEA that there were 35 students in the class with 7 remaining slots open. Chief <br /> Viles also stated that there will be 12 ILEA classes next year, with the classes consisting <br /> of 35 officers instead of 70 officers. Chief Viles stated that he was informing the <br /> Commissioners of this because of the previous comments regarding a new process to <br /> begin in 2009. <br /> Chief Viles updated the Commissioners on the status of the new transport van, stating <br /> that we were waiting on the new lights before it would be ready to be used. Chief Viles <br /> that once the lights arrive, then Sgt. Rogers will be beginning the installation of all the <br /> items ordered for the van. Chief Viles explained that an SOP would need to be written <br /> once the van was operational and that he would contact the neighboring agencies for <br /> copies of theirs. <br /> Commissioner Berwick stated that in regards to SOP 32.00 - "Reserve Program" that no <br /> changes could be made at this time due to the lack of Reserve Schools available. Chief <br /> Viles advised that he talked to Chief Carroll of Brownsburg PD in regards to their <br /> Reserve School and the length of the class, currently 68o hours. Chief Viles stating that <br /> he had contacted ILEA and they advised that they were looking into certifying Reserve <br /> Police Officers in 32o hours, the same amount of time as a Town Marshall. Chief Carroll <br /> advised Chief Viles that if the academy approved their reserve program at 320 hours <br /> then he would curtail his program to same 32o hours. Chief Carroll also advised that <br /> slots in any reserve class would be available at anytime for members of the Mooresville <br /> Police Department. <br />
