Attorney Braun stated that it was always a pleasure to work with Larry. PC Attorney Braun <br />stated that his leadership, his knowledge and his wisdom was always great and beneficial for the <br />Police Commission and for the Police Department. <br />Police Commissioner Lundy stated that they decided in the last meeting to start an officer <br />recognition program. Police Commissioner Lundy stated that they had missed a lot of officers <br />but they were going to go back and try and fill in those gaps. Commissioner Lundy stated that <br />the first award that they wanted to give out was to Officer Mark Bailey. Officer Bailey was hired <br />on August 17, 2013 and completed his five years on August 17, 2018. Commissioner Lundy <br />apologized for taking so long but he did want to present him with a certificate and how the <br />appreciated his service. <br />Police Commissioner Lundy stated that Detective Chad Richhart was the next officer to receive a <br />certificate for his 15 years of service, beginning on March 6, 2004. Commissioner Lundy stated <br />that he would have liked to have given him the award back in March but they weren't there yet. <br />Commissioner Lundy stated that they appreciated his service. <br />Police Commissioner Lundy stated that they had a second award for Detective Richhart. <br />Commissioner Lundy stated that they had also come up with the Distinguished Service Award <br />and that he had made notes so that he would get it right. Commissioner Lundy stated the <br />following: <br />In 2016, Detective Richhart began work on a particularly heart wrenching case involving <br />a murdered child. That case was very trying, emotional, caught statewide headlines and was felt <br />by our whole community. According to the prosecutor on that case, "Chad's work in this case <br />was truly exemplary and led to two convictions in cases with some very challenging facts and <br />circumstances." The prosecutor goes on to say that "Detective Richhart is a true professional and <br />a real asset to the Mooresville Police Department and the Morgan County Major Crimes Task <br />Force." And that "Chad is a true example of the professionalism that we all hope to see in all of <br />our employees." <br />Detective Richhart has been working this case for more than two years and earlier this <br />year, the Court of Appeals affirmed the convictions in this case. The court even went out of its <br />way to mention his handling of the case, his concern for the victim and compliment his ability to <br />preserve the evidence. <br />Commissioner Lundy stated that he can think of no one more deserving to receive our (the Police <br />Commission's) first Distinguished Service Award. Commissioner Lundy stated that on behalf of <br />the Mooresville Police Commission and the People of Mooresville he wanted to thank Detective <br />Richhart for his service and dedication to our community. <br />The next meeting will be held on August 15, 2019 at 6:00 PM at the Mooresville Police <br />Department. <br />
