The rank of lieutenant requires that there be a 12 -month probationary period and that
the individual must have two years of experience. The grievance states that the person in question,
while having ten years experience with another fire department has not met those time requirements,
specifically with the Town of Mooresville. Town Attorney Lee is asking the Council for clarification on the
statute if the time frames must be served with the town of Mooresville or if the previous service will
meet the requirements. There was some discussion, and Councilman Cook noted that prior years of
experience had been considered in the past. Councilman Williams made a motion to deny the grievance
based on the interpretation of the policy that it is not specific to service with the Town of Mooresville.
Councilman Cook seconded.
