Department Head Reports - <br />Council President Warthen stated that to submit paperwork to IDEM, Calvin Bolte needs to be <br />named as the Sewer department acting operator in charge. Councilman Cook motioned to name Calvin <br />Bolte as the acting operator in charge. Councilman Swinney seconded. Motion carried 5-0. <br />Dave Moore introduced Brenda Hunt and wanted to publicly acknowledge all of the work she has been <br />doing on the cemetery project. The community crossing grant is coming down to the wire and they will <br />need to advertise soon. Due to right-of-way issues, Attorney Lee would like a uniform acquisition offer <br />when the owner is approached. He would recommend giving Banning the approval to get the appraisals <br />so that the property owners are fully informed. Councilman Swinney motioned to have Banning move <br />forward with the appraisals and acquire the right of way for 11 parcels. Councilman Williams seconded. <br />Motion carried 5-0 <br />Chief Dalton informed the council that John Hartsock has resigned and is going to Martinsville, and the <br />Chief at Martinsville has asked if the Town would be willing to sell John's gear as it is fairly new. His gear <br />cost $2,844, and there have been no negotiations, but he should be able to get close to that number for <br />the gear. The Chief has given a conditional offer of employment to a current part-time person who <br />already has gear, and there are currently six backup sets. Attorney Lee stated that this could be <br />accomplished with an inter -local agreement. Councilman Cook made a motion to proceed with the <br />inter -local agreement. Councilman Swinney seconded. Motion carried 5-0. <br />Kris Wilson thanked the council for the appointment of the Park Board members. The Park is back to a <br />Pre-Covid schedule, including Daddy daughter and Mother son nights. Her last day of employment with <br />the Town will be Friday. She introduced Keelan Simpson, who is currently the Assistant Superintendent <br />and has been named the Interim Superintendent until the position is filled though he has no intention of <br />applying for the position. <br />Chief Buckner stated that the grant is paying for the body cameras. There was a delay due to a wrong <br />invoice method from Motorola, but the Motorola Customer Service team was commendable and <br />ensured the grant money could be released. The school is close to having the 200`h -anniversary badge <br />design done. Tomorrow is the first meeting of the Drug Task force with Mooresville, Martinsville, and <br />the County. The department heads have agreed that they will meet with other IT Companies to see if <br />they can meet the needs of the departments. February 4th will be the first financial awareness class he <br />has invited Martinsville and the County to attend. Councilman Williams asked for an update on the <br />canine program. Two officers will be sent to handler training this spring, and after that a canine will be <br />matched to an officer and their family. <br />Legal—There were none <br />Public Comments — There were none. <br />Approval of Claims - <br />Councilman Swinney made the motion to approve claims in the amount of $526,302 .53. Councilman <br />Brown seconded. Motion carried 5-0. <br />Payroll Clearing - <br />Councilman Swinney motioned for the approval of payroll clearing for $180,200.74. Councilman Cook <br />seconded. Motion carried 5-0. <br />Town Council Comments— <br />Councilman Williams expressed his thanks to all of the applicants for the board position and encouraged <br />those not chosen to apply again. <br />Councilman Brown seconded the thanks to the applicants and wished Kris the best of luck in her new <br />position. <br />Councilman Swinney mentioned that Paul Mason passed away Friday and wanted to acknowledge his <br />life. <br />
