The school's tax rate has stayed <br />the same, but the debt services went up and the county passed a bond to build a criminal justice center. <br />Department Head Reports — Parks Superintendent, Phil Cornelius announced that four concerts will take <br />place in Bi -Centennial Park this year. June 3rd, July 15, August 12th, and September 9th from 7 PM to 10 <br />PM. He will be coming back to the council with street closure requests for those dates. The Old Town Park <br />bathroom site is ahead of schedule and will be ready for the delivery of the building in late May. <br />Chief Dalton announced that sixteen applicants are moving on to the next round of testing for the open <br />positions. He has been in contact with legal about the acceptability of bunk rooms, as some female <br />applicants may move to the next round. <br />Chief Dalton stated that a staff vehicle was allotted in the capital improvement plan, and he has had his <br />name on a few vehicles. There is currently a Chevy that is available for $42,450. $48k was budgeted in the <br />capital improvement plan for the staff vehicle. With the outfitting of the vehicle, it is expected to come in <br />at $48,000, even with reusing some of the lights. The Chief was expecting availability at the end of the <br />year. <br />The air pack grant has been turned in and will start being awarded in October. There was some discussion <br />about ensuring the item had been appropriated. <br />Councilman Williams made a motion to table staff vehicle atthis time. Councilman Cook seconded. Motion <br />carried 5-0. <br />Chief Buckner announced that a fundraiser car show for the Police Department will be held on June 171h <br />The K-9 Maya will arrive at the end of May, and the kennel has been installed in the vehicle. <br />Legal — <br />Town Attorney Lee said the RDC reached out to him about the possible sale of the Shell building. An <br />abatement is currently on that property that needs to be rescinded in order to complete the sale of the <br />building. It does not exclude future abatements. <br />Councilman Williams made a motion to pass Resolution 6-2023. Councilman Brown seconded. Motion <br />carried 5-0. <br />Councilman Cook asked for an update on the animal control contract due to some failure to respond to <br />reports. Town Attorney Lee would like to further discuss possible solutions with the council. <br />Public Comments — <br />There were none. <br />Motion for Approval of Claims — <br />Councilman Swinney made the motion to approve claims of $405,697.25. Councilman Brown seconded. <br />Motion carried 5-0. <br />Motion for Approval of Payroll Clearing - <br />Councilman Swinney made the motion to approve payroll clearing of $203,250.21. Councilman Brown <br />seconded. Motion carried 5-0 <br />Town Council Comments— <br />Councilman Williams mentioned an additional grant program that may be available to the Mental Health <br />Task Force. Ann Madison is requesting letters of support from individual members of the council in order <br />to apply for the grant. <br />
