Tuesday, November 16, 1999

To the Mooresville Plaruùng ConuI1Ìssion:

I am writing this letter to you to make everyone aware of a situation that is developing in our part of
Mooresville very quickly. We the residents of E. South Street have reason to believe that the
lumberyard situated on the south side of E. South Street is planning to expand on two more lots east
of their location right now.

The reason we think the lwnberyard plans to expand, and mind you, I say quickly. Because the
lwnberyard owns the house and property on #223 E. South Street where a family of five with three
little children have lived in for years. And yesterday we found out that the lumberyard has told them
to move out by the last day of November, 99; in less than three weeks.

Now, a few weeks ago, there was a fire deemed suspicious next door at 231 E. South Street. We
found out yesterday that the lumberyard bought that property. And the word is that they are
planning to tear down # 231 and # 223 to expand the lwnberyard, to bring more trucks, more
pollution and more noise in the middle of the night even with trucks coming in and out of one of
the main entrances to our town and our street.

1 don't want to see this happen. And my neighbors don't want to see this happen either.

'-

I am completely against the expansion of the lwnberyard because that would put the lumberyard just
fifteen feet from my house. We recently built an expensive extension to our house and if the
lumberyard expands next to us, what do you think that will do to our property value and to everyone
around the lwnberyard and how does it look for the center of our town of Mooresville? The
lwnberyard is already a dusty, grimy, disagreeable, hard to swallow neighbor that essentially does
more damage than good to our community, our town.

I say, if they have a need to expand, they should find a piece of property that is appropriately
located, and not in the middle of our residential community.

We have not complained about them before, but they did expand their facility within the last two
years onto two residentialJ.QtsJhat are still zoned R-l. And the startling fact was thatt~ey did it
practically overnight. I asked the Cle' ffiçe how ~ could get away with exI'anding~bu~lIless
,'On pr~l?e~ at IS not eg roned. t e reI' Y was t at no one comp ame Well, I am
comp auung now. Piña ,my usban an our nelg bors all want to e eard. They will not
expand the lwnberyard in our community in the middle of town. The lwnberyard does NOT
belong there anymore. Our town is special, we love it and we want to live and raise our children
with peace of mind and dignity. And our neighbors are all in agreement with me. We will stop the
expansion of the lwnberyard.

Sincerely,

-

Mrs. Louise Conrad
239 E.
