Mr. Herzog explained that these <br />people can't just sell and move out, as businesses push on top of <br />their homes. He also advised that the petition that was presented <br />at the hearing in April showed how many people were against this. <br />He advised that these people were not against the Newcomer <br />property because it was across the street, and that as to the <br /> <br />properties in the immediate area, the two on the end were present <br /> <br />prior to the current zoning ordinance being in place. The Board <br />then proceeded to a discussion, with Tilford Bailey stating that <br />the majority of the area was residential and additional business <br />in this area would not be the highest and best use. Signe <br />Nicholson stated that, under the Master Land Use Plan, this area <br />should be residential. William Abbott stated that this area is <br />basically a business corridor, but the General Business use next <br />to the residential area would be too severe. Steve Edwards <br />concurred in this. A motion was made by Signe Nicholson to deny <br />the rezoning, and this was seconded by Robert Tucker, and passed <br /> <br />by vote of seven to zero. <br /> <br /> <br />The next item to come before the Board was the building <br /> <br /> <br />inspector's report on unsafe buildings. Mr. Beikman advised that <br /> <br /> <br />the Lowery property at 2 West Main Street still had some interior <br /> <br /> <br />walls and floor joists that needed replacing, along with other <br /> <br /> <br />interior work. He stated that he had not had contact since May <br /> <br /> <br />27th and felt that additional work was needed for compliance. <br /> <br /> <br />William Abbott advised that the last Board action was to allow the <br /> <br />-6- <br />
