MINUTES OF THE BOARD OF METROPOLITAN POLICE COMMISSONERS
FEBRUARY 18, 1999

The Town of Mooresvdle Board of Metropolitan PoBce Commissioners met February 18,
1999 with board members Dr. Dennis Knierim, Dean Kay& and Charles Beravick being
present along with legal council Timothy Currens. The meeting was called to order by Dr.
Knierim.

The minutes for January were approved as written.

Under Old Business:

Dr. Knierim advised that the Town Council has approved the hiring of a nmv officer under
the Cops Fast Grant Program. Charles Berwick made motion to hire deff Cook with the
stipulation of his passing all tests and procedures required by the Mooresvdle Police Depart-
ment. Dean Kays seconded the motion, and it was passed unanimously. Chief Vales advised
pending his passing the physical and mental exam, he would go through the Academy before
starting his Field Training. Hire date would be the last Saturday of March or the first Sat.
of Aprd, depending on the start date of the pay period

Tim Viles suggested to the commission to close the list of the last hiring process, and begin
taking resumes for a new list. He ~vould like to use the same aptitute testing agency that was
used in the last process, which is I.P.S.I. He then explained the physical agility testing and
interview process, with cuts being made in each phase. The remaining names would be brought
to the Commissioners for them to choose whom to interview.

Tim Currens asked when there would be a need to fill a position. Chief Viles advised there
were no openings at this time, but at least three people will be elgible to retire by the end of
next year. He made a recommendation to begin written testing by April or May.

All were in agreement to establish a new hiring list. ChiefViles advised that he has at least
thirtyfive resumes now on file, and there would be no need to advertise at this time.
