April 16, 2024 <br />The Mooresville Town Council met in a regular session on Tuesday, April 16, 2024, at 6:30 P.M. at <br />the Mooresville Government Center. <br />Council members present were Council President Tom Warthen, Councilman Greg S nney, <br />Councilman Jeff Cook, Councilman Josh Brown, and Councilman Kirk Witt. Town Attor y Chou-il <br />Lee was also present. <br />Council President Warthen gave the invocation and called the meeting to order. <br />Councilman Brown motioned to approve the meeting minutes of April 2, 024, seconded by <br />Councilman Swinney. The motion carried 5-0. <br />Unfinished Business: / <br />Councilman Brown requested approval to establish a committee to view sign quotes to ensure <br />the quotes are itemized and aligned with the town's goal. <br />Councilman Swinney motioned to approve establishing a com ittee, seconded by Councilman <br />Witt. The motion carried 5-0. <br />New Business: <br />Nikki McCrady with the Kendrick Foundation appeared b ore the Town Councilto formally request <br />a Proclamation recognizing May 2024 as Mental Healt Month. Councilman Swinney motioned to <br />approve the Proclamation, seconded by Councilma rown. The motion carried 5-0. <br />Department Head Reports: <br />Fire Chief Dalton informed the council that th vehicle the DNR donated last year needs a new <br />transmission. The estimated cost is $5,500 - 6,000. Chief Dalton had already consulted with the <br />DNR, which provided a written statement of heir approvalto surplus the car. Councilman Warthen <br />recommended that Chief Dalton go throu Municibid, and Legal counsel will proceed with drafting <br />a surplus resolution for the next meetin <br />Chief Dalton came before the counci to request approval to price a new fire truck. Councilman <br />Warthen stated that Chief Dalton d es not require approval to gather information. He suggested <br />that Chief Dalton list the specific ions he is looking for and plan to attend the FDIC Conference in <br />Indianapolis to explore options/ <br />Chief Dalton asked the conn t to consider amending the salary ordinance to allocate $7,500 from <br />his budget for a paramedi stipend. This funding will be used to have three medics on shift, <br />incentivizingfirefighters t become medics. <br />Chief Buckner update the council members on employment aspects aimed at retaining officers. <br />Recently, one officer eft, leaving the department understaffed. After the first of the year, one more <br />officer is set to reti e, and three have applied for Lateral transfers to other agencies. <br />Chief Buckner i working to secure a COPS grant to add personnel for three to five years, with a <br />match of 25/7 %. <br />1 C <br />(�Y\`\` a\r(!�VV0V- <br />
