July 6, 2010 ` <br /> I <br /> The Mooresville Town Council met in regular session on Tuesday,-July 6, 2010, at 6:30 P. M. at <br /> the Mooresville Government Center. <br /> Town Council members present were: Vice-President Tony Langley, Mark Harris, and Jeff <br /> _ Cook. Council President Ryan Goodwin and John L. Clark were absent. Attorney Tim Currens <br /> was absent. Clerk-Treasurer Sandra Perry was present. <br /> Jolm Crump, Mooresville Church of God, gave the invocation. <br /> A motion was made by Councilman Harris with a second by Councilman Cook to approve the <br /> minutes of June 15, 2010 meeting. Motion carried 3-0. <br /> Molly Adams, Mooresville High School Student Council, appeared before the council <br /> concerning the renaming of Old State Road 67. She requested this be tabled to a meeting after <br /> school began in August so she could get more supporters from school to attend the meeting. <br /> Councilman Harris said that in the meetings with Strategic Development for the comprehensive <br /> plan it was discussed to name Old State Road 67 Samuel Moore Parkway. He also said that road <br /> was not the only road leading into Town for people to get to the school. He would rather stay <br /> with the history of Mooresville with a naive for the road. Vice-President Langley said it makes <br /> sense with what Molly Adams was saying the council made a commitment to the school to have <br /> their help in the renaming. After much discussion a motion was made by Councilman Harris <br /> with a second by Councilman Cook to rename Old State Road 67 to Samuel Moore Parkway. <br /> The vote was 2-1 with Councilman Harris and Councilman Cook for and Vice-President Langley <br /> opposed. The motion died for lack of a quorum vote. <br /> Next, Jan Hardy, Churches in Mission, requested waiving of a building permit fee to remodel <br /> their restroom. The council will look into the matter. <br /> A motion was made by Councilman Cook with a second by Councilman Harris to approve the <br /> street closing permit for the Old Settlers Parade on August 8, 2010 at 2:00 P. M. with the same <br /> route as years past. Motion carried 3-0. <br /> Stanley Butrum not present. <br /> No legal. <br /> Fire Chief, Tim Medsker, discuss the possibility of buying their diesel fuel from the school. This <br /> would save approximately 63 cents per gallon. The cost would be $1.90 per gallon. Council <br /> agreed to go ahead and buy the diesel from the school. <br /> The Clerk Treasurer reported the budget calendar will be ready for the next meeting. Also two <br /> councilmen are needed for Health Insurance committee. Tony Langley and Ryan Goodwin will <br /> serve on the committee. <br /> i <br /> Councilman Harris presented a letter from Randy and Nancy Caldwell listing improvements that <br /> needed to be made in Town. A copy went to the department heads involved and the department <br /> heads are to report back on July 201'. <br /> Vice-President Langley reported the mosquitoes were bad at the fireworks and there have been <br /> other report concerning mosquitoes. The council will check to see if the street department is <br /> spraying for them. <br /> Animal Control Officer, Mark Taylor, reported thirty-three (33) calls, twelve (12) impounds, and <br /> ten(10)returns. <br /> A motion was made by Councilman Harris with a second by Councilman Cook to approve <br /> payment of the claims. Motion carried 3-0. <br /> There being no further business to come before the Town Council at this time a motion was <br /> made by Councilman Harris with a second by Councilman Cook to adjourn the meeting. Motion <br /> carried 3-0. <br />
