Councilman Clark said he didn't understand the motion. He stated he did not like the <br />place but was not going to violate anyone's rights. · He told Councilman Mathis if he <br />would re-do the motion he would vote for it. Councilman Py~m~aan said he wanted the <br />motion re-worded to say look into an ordinance and when the next meeting gets here, the <br />ordinance be ready to vote on. Councilman Mathis said if attorney Currens brings back <br />the information needed for the ordinance they could make it the night of the meeting even · <br />if it took fourteen hours. Councilman Pygrnan said he did not want to just look into it <br />and then drop it. Town attorney Tim Currens said whether or not it was dropped was up <br />to the Council. The motion was re-visited' Motion was made by Councilman Mathis, <br />second by Councilman Warthen to have Attorney Tim Currens look into the legalities <br />and ideas for an ordinance to legally prevent this from happening somewhere else in the <br />Town of Mooresville. Motion carried 4-0. <br /> <br />Mark Taylor s e saying he thought the news made a bigger deal out of the activities in <br />J-2 than was necessary. He said maybe there was some stuff going on down there that <br />need not be going on, but the neWs blew up things out of proportion. He thought it was <br />one sided. Shirley Welker said but if her daughter had to have 22 stitches, whether at <br />fault or not at fault, she was in an environment that would allow that to happen. <br /> <br /> Motion was made by Councilman Clark, second by Councilman Pygrnan to approve <br /> payment of the claims. Motion carried 4-0. <br /> <br /> There being no further business to come before the council at this time, a motion was <br /> made by Councilman Clark, second by Councilman Mathis to adjourn the meeting. <br /> Motion carried 4-0. <br /> <br /> The next meeting of the Town Council will be on Tuesday, May 21, 2002, at 6:30 P. M. at the Mooresviile Town Hall. <br /> <br /> Council members present were: President TOm Warthen, Mark Mathis, Andy Pygman, <br /> Toby Dolen, and J. L. Clark. No members were absent. Town attorney Tim Currens was <br /> present. <br /> <br /> Jeff Newton from the Free Methodist Church gave the invocation. ., <br /> <br /> Motion was made by Councilman Mathis, second by Councilman Dolen to approve the <br /> minutes of May 7, 2002. Motion carried 5-0. <br /> <br /> President Warthen announced that Judy Anderson (on the agenda) would not be present <br /> tonight. <br /> <br /> President Warthen said he knew there were a lot of people present concerning J-2 and he <br /> restated the Town Council had no legal means of closing a business operating within the <br /> parameters of the law. The Town Council was not going to close J-2. A citizen against <br /> J-2 stated he knew his group was very concerned and he wanted to know that the council <br /> was concerned and that they would support whatever measures the Town Council feels <br /> necessary to protect the teenagers and to keep the community safe. President Tom <br /> Warthen informed the group the council had asked legal to address businesses such as <br /> this in the future. <br /> <br /> Barbara Lambert of Greenwood, IN, read a statement in defense of Larry and Darcel <br /> Mason, managers of J-2. She said J-2 was a place for teens with no alcohol, no racism, <br /> no sex and no fighting. Mary Hoffarth, John' Wyttenbach, James Hoffarth, and Chad <br /> Olen spoke before the council about J-2 being such a nice safe place. <br /> <br /> <br />
