Motion carded 5-0. <br /> <br /> Due to tho lateness of the hour, the salary ordinance for 1998 was tabled to the August 26, 1997 <br /> tneeting. <br /> <br /> The next meeting of the lvloorcsville Town Council will be Tuesday, August 26, 1997 at 7:30 P. <br /> M. at the Mooresville Town Hall tbr a pre-adoption hea~g for the 1998 Budget. <br /> <br /> ATTEST: <br /> <br /> August 26, 1997 <br /> <br /> Tl~e Mooresville Town Council met in a special meeting for budget pre-adoption hearing on <br /> Tuesday, August 26, 1997, at 7:30 P. M. at the Mooresxdlle Town Ifall. <br /> <br /> Council members present were: President Mark Mathis, Vice-President Pd~dy Pygmatt, Jim <br /> Hensley, Bill Wright, and Toby Dolen. <br /> <br /> Motion was made by Councihnan Hensley, second by Councilman Wright to approve the minutes <br /> of the August 19, 1997 meeting with the exception of the dollar amount Umbaugh & Asso~. <br /> suggested be transferred to the Sewer Bond & Interest Fund from the Operating Fund. Motion <br /> carded 5-0. <br /> <br /> The Concensus of the Council members was to move the Budget and Salary Ordinance to the next <br /> meeting on September 2, 1997. <br /> <br /> ~llfis being the pre-adoption hearing for the 1998 budget, the Clerk-Treasurer reported the <br /> advertised budget at a tax rate of $2.95 and ff the ltisto~3' of assessed value increase stays as in th~ <br /> · , past the tax rate should be approximately $2.84. President Mark Malhis asked if there was anyone <br /> present to speak about the Budget. There was no one. <br /> <br /> Robert Jones appeared before rite Cotmcil to request permission to close Tavistock Lane in <br /> Roberson Village for a Block Party. Motion was made by Councilman Hensley, second by <br /> Councilman Dolen to approve the request to close Tavistock for a Block Party with the approval <br /> of Clfief of Police Viles. Motion carded 5-0. <br /> <br /> Ken Fisher from Southbfidge Crossing presented a diagram wlfich explained rite drainage ditches <br /> needed for some tlfirty businesses on both sides of Highway 67. He explained that the Town had <br /> used the Southbridge property for a dmnping ground for water for the past years, without the <br /> foresight to the possibility of someone buying that properS,, filling it in, and making a commercial <br />· development. Now, the pipe tlhat empties into the property and the flapper valve need to be re- <br /> routed to the retention pond the developers are putting in on the south end of the property. The <br /> plans call tbr a 42" pipe and a 24" pipe bofl~ totaling $145,000. The sewer extensions for rite <br /> manholes were also shown on the diagram and discussed. Motion was made by Councilman <br /> Pygman, second by Councihnan Wright to extend the slx sewer manl~oles up to level with the <br /> Town Street Department doing the work. ~lltis will reduce the cost from $15,000.00 to <br /> approximately $5,000 to $6,000.00. Motion carried 5-0. No motion was forthcoming on the two <br /> dr~ pipes to the retention pond. Since a decision was not made one way or another, Ken Fisher <br /> asked if that meant they should not come back to the Council. President Mathis said trey could <br /> put then~selves ou the agenda, but it looked like this was all the Council was going to do. <br /> <br /> <br />
