Wendell Thaler advised:that he hadstudied the standard required for a <br />variance from the development .standards and felt that variances I through 3 as <br />requested met the proposed standards with variance request 4, for parking not <br />meeting the variance from development standards in that it was a potential health <br />and safety problem which could be injurious .to cvw~dnity. Paul Walters seconded <br />this and the-vote was unan/mous. <br /> <br /> The next item to come before the Board was the variance filed by J~s W. <br />Hood and Janet L. Hood of 37 E. St. Clair Street, requesting per~Lssion to convert <br />a small room (6 T X 10') in their residence to a locksn~Lth workshop and to place <br />a small sign in'the yard to advertise 'the locksmith service. Attorney Currens <br />advised that ~he notices were ~n order and the Board proceeded to a hearing on <br />the same. The'Hoods ~ere present in person and Hr. Hood advised that he had <br />Just completed locksmith~s school and wantedto initiate this business in the <br />home so that he would have a business built up by the thne of his retirement in <br />the future. Hr. Hood advised that the area in the house that he would convert <br />would be a small workshop ~th most of the business being outside of the home. <br />He said that he would expect some drive up business but most of it would come <br />from telephone requests for hi~n to do the work outside of the home. He also <br />advised that he'would not be selling anyth±n~other than his services from the <br />home. He did not believe there would Be any parking problem nor increased traffic. <br />As to the sign he said that a small sign was all that he is requesting. The <br />Board then opened up the meeting to any remonstrators. Hary Englebert of 48 E. <br />Carlisle then addressed the Board and stated that she objected to the business <br />use in the residential area feeling that it hurt the property values. She advised <br />that she lived directly behind the Hoods. Next Wade Roberson of 45 E. St. Clair <br />Street spoke. He stated he felt that it could potentially hurt property values. <br />He also felt that if one variance was granted that it would set a precedent for <br />future variances.
