Commission member Mike Young read aloud a section of the letter that states the bank
can withdraw this offer at any time. The commission members opened the meeting up to
public questions and comments.
Sydney spoke from the audience, she is a business owner on Main St, she is concerned
about the parking situation downtown, and she has read a sign in the parking lot that says
donated to the citizens for downtown parking. She also mentioned she attended those
meetings it was more of a water feature vs no water feature rather than a want don't want
the park kind of meeting. She works with the elderly, she does not want her patrons to
have to walk any farther than necessary, and if the park passes she will pull her business
from the downtown area.
Deb Hutchinson of 9 and 11 E Main St her concerns are park maintenance, she's always
taken care of the flowers until just this past season when the master gardeners planted
roses. She also states that businesses could lose out during the construction phase; she has
additional concerns as well.
Dave Allen of 16 N Indiana St, the barber shop, is concerned with the loss of close by
parking spaces. With the proposed new parking lot 2 blocks away and with the new park
attracting visitors the road side parking will be taken, he thinks this will also hinder his
visiting elderly clientele. He expresses concerns with possible vandalism, security, and
maintenance. He believes these enhancements would be better in Old Town Park.
` Business proprietor from K9 Kuts, a new business to the downtown area is concerned
with parking as well, she operates a business based with animals, parks attract business
for her but the lack of parking would be an obstacle for her clients walking downtown
busy areas with animals as well.
Susan Johnson of the audience feels that we are putting the cart before the horse, while
she is all for green space other questions and concerns are not being addressed, to
approve the park before addressing the maintenance, security etc is concerning.
An audience member that owns multiple buildings downtown wants to know how long
the proposed green screen is, will the utility pole stay, parking behind business will be
limited, and trash dumpsters make parking in the rear difficult, she's asking the board to
think twice. Another gentleman asked about room for trash pick -up.
Owner of Ralph and Ava's downtown are opposed due to the lack of parking that would
then be available to patrons.
Shane Williams of 6 W Main and 10 N Indiana clarified who the commission Chairman
was, Tim Currens asked that Shane remain professional and respectful. Shane was upset
that notice of this meeting wasn't received until today, he wants to know why the park
can't go at 40 W Main and leave the parking alone.
