Motion carried 5-0 <br /> <br /> The Downtown Merchants Association requested closing downtox,.n streets for Founders Day. <br /> Councilman Dolen replied he didn't see how that could bc done because of heavier traffic due <br /> to the construction of the bridge on West }ligh Street ( St. ltd. 42). l>olicc ChicfTim Viles was <br /> opposed to closing of downtown streets for the celebration, l'rcsidcnt Mark Mathis told the <br /> council they could table this item or vote now. This item was tabled to June 6, 2000 ~neeting. <br /> <br /> Police Commissioner, Dennis Knicrm, presented his request for hiring a new police officer. "~ <br /> They have twenty officers now and due to Mooresville's growth they fccl tile need for another <br /> officer. Mr. Knierm stated they were short on detectives now. Councilman l)ygman stated there <br /> was not enough money extra iii this years budget. Councilman Warthcn said there was one <br /> officer coming offa LEAF grant and two officers coming offa Cops Fast grant at thc end of this <br /> year and would need to be added to thc police regular budget for 200 I. I lc thought everyone <br /> needed to "step back and take a breather until thc end of this year.' Councihnan Dolen said lie <br /> thought some research needed to be done in relation to the budget for 2001. Motion was made <br /> by Councilman Warthen, second by Councilman Dolcn to deny request at this time and look at <br /> the budget figures for 2001. Motion carried 4-1 with Councihnan Clark opposed. <br /> <br /> President Mathis told the council that nothing was firm on tile South Street sewer project and <br /> hopefully the committee would be ready by the June 6, 2000 meeting. <br /> <br /> Mary Jane Cheeseman, member of the Town Manager committee, gave each council member a <br /> copy of their report for the council to digest and il' they have any questions, they could discuss at <br /> the June 6, 2000 meeting. <br /> <br /> Town attorney Tim Currens presented an amendment to Ordinance 02, 1993 which would allow <br /> $5.00 to go back to the Police Departgnent for administration fees for pictures and <br /> documentation from investigation of trash complaints. Motion was made by Councillnan Dolen, <br /> second by Councilman Clark to approve Ordinance #5, 2000 an amcndmcn! to Ordinance 02, <br /> 1993. Motion carried 5-0. <br /> <br /> Motion was made by Councilman Clark, second by Councihnan Dolcn to approve Ordinance/46, <br /> 2000, an amendment to the noise ordinance to give thc aminal control officer the ability to <br /> <br /> enforce animal noise. Motion carried 5-0. <br /> <br /> Motion was made by Councihnan Dolen, second by Councihnan Clark to approve Ordinance # <br /> 7, 2000, rezoning Weliever property on Main Street from B-3 to I-I. Motion carried 4-0. <br /> President Mark Mathis abstained. <br /> <br /> Animal Control Officer, Mark Taylor, reported twenty-three (23) calls, eight (8) inspections, and <br /> eight (8) returned. <br /> <br /> Motion was made by Councilman Warthen, second by Councihnan Clark to approve payment of <br /> the claims. <br /> <br /> There being no further business to crone before the council at this time, motion was made by <br /> Councilman Dolen, second by Councilman Clark to adjourn thc meeting. <br /> <br /> The next meeting of the Mooresville Town Council will be Tuesday, June 6, 2000, at 6:30 P.M. ~ <br /> at the Mooresville Town Hall. <br /> <br /> Sandra R.
