Councilman Warthcn gave an update on Census 2000. There will be an essay contest for middle <br />school and h/gh school and a poster contest for elementary. Prizes will be given--to be <br />determ/ned later. Councilman Warthen has requested more flyers from the Census committee. <br /> <br />Next on the agenda, EDC Director Harold Gutzwiller presented a request/'or tax abatement/'or <br />Thermocore. Total investment of $1,614,000.00. Request is for a six year property and five year <br />equipment abatement. He informed the Council the Redevelopment Commission voted to <br />recommend the s/x and five ye, ar abatement to the Town Council. Mr. Gutzwiller needs an <br />approval ofin/tial declaratory resolution and a public heating date set. He told the Council that <br />in the past, the total equipment amount has been considered but only the amount of investment <br />in new equipmcnt is abatablc. Thc old equipment would be only new taxes for Mooresville. <br />Motion was made by Councilman Dolen, second by Councilman Clark to approve the <br />Declaratory Resolution and attorncy Tim Currens will set a public hearing date for a regular <br />Town Council meeting. Motion carried 5-0. <br /> <br />President Mathis announced his prcsidential appointment to Plan Commission for four year term <br />as Robert Williamson, a Democrat. He told the Council they would discuss Universal Valuation <br />on Old Business at the March 7, 2000 meeting and they would discuss park restrooms under <br />unf'mished business at the same meeting. <br /> <br />Councilman Warthen told the Council the remodeling bills at the Police Station were more than <br />the $5,000 line itcm in his budget. Motion was made by Councilman Warthen, second by <br />Councilman Dolcn to approvc a limit of $10,000.00 for remodeling claims from Cumulative <br />Capital Develo~-~nt'Fund for Police Station. Motion carried 5-0. <br /> <br />Animal Control Officer Mark Taylor reported sixteen (16) calls, seven (7) impounds, and three <br />(3) returned. <br /> <br />President Mathis told the Council that under new business at the March 7, 2000 meeting, they <br />would discuss early warning detection systems. He also told council members he would be <br />addressing the Chamber of Commerce on the State of the Town at their meeting to be held on <br />Thursday, February 17, 2000 at 12:00 P. M. <br /> <br />The next meeting ofthe Mooresville Town Council will be Tuesday, March 7, 2000, at 6:30 P. <br />M. at the Mooresville Town Hall. <br /> <br />Motion was made by Councilman Warthen, second by Councilman Clark to approve payment of <br />the claims. Motion carried 5-0. <br /> <br />There being no further business before the Mooresville Town Council at this time, motion was <br />made by Councilman Dolen, second by Councilman Clark to adjourn the meeting.
