475 <br /> <br /> Match 7, 2000 <br /> <br />The Mooresville Town Council met in regular session on Tuesday, March 7, 2000, at 6:30 I'.M. <br />at the Mooresville Town Hail. <br /> <br />Town Council members present: President Mark Mathis, Toby Dolcn, .lohn L. Clark, Tom <br />Warthen, and Andy Pygman. Town attorney Tim Currens was present. No members were <br />absent. <br /> <br />Motion was made by Councilman Clark, second by Councilman Warthcn to approve minutes of <br />February 15, 2000 meeting. Motion carried 5-0. <br /> <br />First order of business was the tax abatement for Thermocore. EDC Director, ltarold <br />Gutzwiller, reported the building in this project will be 29,000 sq. feet, 27,500 sq. ft. <br />manufacturing space and 1,500 sq. feet ofoffice space. The tax abatement will be six years real <br />property and 5 years personal property. This property is in TifArea 2. New taxes generated for <br />Mooresville will be $55,389.00 and the abated taxes will be $86,176.00. They now have eight <br />employees and over the next three years will employ fifteen ne~v employees, for a total of <br />twenty-three. Mr. Pat Egan, of Thermocore panel Systems, addressed the council on the wages <br />benefits. Starting salary will be $8.50 per hour going to $9.00 per hour within three months. The <br />attendance bonus starts at $30.00 for the first month building to $150.00 per month if they call <br />in and have no unexcused absence. Motion was made by Councilman Warthen, seconded by <br />Councilman Clark, to approve the tax abatement for Thermocore Panel Systems for six years on <br />real property and five years on personal property. Motion carried 5-0. <br /> <br /> Motion was made by Councilman Dolen, seconded by Councihnan Clark, to approve Resolution <br /> //2 for tax abatement which will be for six years on real property, five years on personal property <br /> and on the facts finding. Motion carried 5-0. <br /> <br /> Mr. Joe Tetterow, of the Mooresville Baseball League, stated he was asking permission to have a <br /> Parade on April 22, 2000, for the Baseball League only. The Girls Softball League will not be <br /> involved in the parade. He also stated that there would be an adult over the age of eighteen in <br /> each truck and that they would not throw any candy. Motion was made by Councilman Dolen, <br /> seconded by Councilman Warthen, to approve the Parade for the Mooresville Baseball League <br /> on April 22, 2000. Motion carried 5-0. <br /> <br /> Next was the bids for sludge truck for Wastewater Treatment Plant. Mr. Dan Tingle, <br /> superintendent of WWTP, reported he had received two bids. First bid was from Speedway <br /> International for $61,628.00 and second bid from General Truck Sales was for $52,975.25. <br /> General Truck Sales will give $4,000.00 as trade in for old sludge truck. Mr. Tingle is to find <br /> out if this is be deducted from the quoted price of $52,975.25. Motion was made by Councilman <br /> Dolen to accept the lowest bid from General Truck Sales of $52,975.25 for new sludge truck. <br /> Motion carried 5-0. <br /> <br /> Mooresville Fire Chief, Les Farmer, reported on the town's early warning detection system. He <br /> stated the system we have now is inadequate for the town, it can not be heard in all areas of the <br /> town since our expansions. The new system would consist of five sirens located at different <br /> areas around town and activated at central dispatch. Then it will send back a signal letting them <br /> know how long the systems ran. Mr. Mathis said that with report from Mr. Farmer, he feels the <br /> town should be looking into a new system. A new system would cost around $100,000.00. He <br /> has been checking on grants and is not sure how this will be funded and that Brown Township <br /> would help with the funding. Mr. Mathis would like permission from the Council to go ahead <br /> with project so they can find out how this can be paid for. The Council approved that Mr. <br /> Mathis and Mr. Farmer could looking into this project further and bring back to them a report on <br /> the cost of the system. <br /> <br /> <br />
