6 <br /> August 17, 2010 <br /> The Mooresville Town Council met in regular session on Tuesday, August 17, 2010, at <br /> 6:30 P. M. at the Mooresville Government Center. <br /> Town council members present were: President Ryan Goodwin, Tony Langley, John L. <br /> Clark, and Jeff Cook. Council member Mark Harris was absent. Attorney Tim Currens <br /> was present. Clerk-Treasurer Sandra Perry was present. <br /> Kurt Freeman, First United Methodist Church, gave the invocation. <br /> A motion was made by Councilman Langley with a second by Councilman Clark to <br /> approve minutes of August 6, 2010. Motion carried 4-0. <br /> A motion was made by Councilman Clark with a second by Councilman Langley to <br /> approve amended minutes from June 15, 2010, in the fifth paragraph to say Sewer Rate <br /> Ordinance#8, 2010 was introduced and approved unanimously, as to form, by the Town <br /> Council. The Town Council then scheduled July 20, 2010 for a second reading of <br /> Ordinance#8, 2010 and for a public hearing on the rate ordinance. Attorney Currens <br /> stated this change was consistent with his notes he took at the meeting. Motion carried 4- <br /> 0. <br /> Next, Dr. Long with 20/20 vision group held a question answer session on the five things <br /> needed that makes a community where people want to live. The group has no power, <br /> they are just people getting together and making plans. They will be putting together a <br /> power plan for the Town Council. <br /> Next, Robert Wade spoke to the council about the trees at 10—24 East Main Street. <br /> They have grown too big and are destroying pavement and the commemorative bricks in <br /> the sidewalks. He wants help to change these trees to dwarf trees. Council President <br /> Goodwin said the other property owners were in favor of smaller trees. Mr. Wade said <br /> trimming will not solve the problem. Lori Cole,business owner, said they have talked to <br /> Greendell and they suggested dwarf Japanese maples. David Moore, Utility Department, <br /> told the council they have existing manpower and equipment. He also said Greendell is <br /> coming to look at the situation and going to suggest the kind of trees that could be used. <br /> This will be addressed at the next meeting, September 7, 2010. <br /> Jinn Burgess, Mooresville Church of God,requested an alley closing on September 18t", <br /> 2010 from 8 AM to 11 PM for a concert. This is the east alley from Main Street to <br /> Washington Street and back to their parking lot. A motion was made by Councilman <br /> Clark with a second by Councilman Langley to approve. Motion carried 4-0. <br /> Rosemary Rogers, Mooresville Revitalization Group, requested a street closing for the <br /> Roots and Rhythm Festival. This is a fundraiser` for Victorian Christmas. A motion was <br /> made by Councilman Langley with a second by Councilman Clark to approve the street <br /> closing from Main and Indiana to Clay Street from 8 AM to 5 PM on August 28t", 2010. <br /> The department heads had approved and said they needed eight barricades. Motion <br /> carried 4-0. <br /> Dave Stegman,Roberson Woods,requested a block party on September 11, 2010, at 542 <br /> Redwood Drive. The activities are mostly in the yards. Any employee of the Town, <br /> working that day can come and eat. The time is 11 AM to 5 P M. A motion was made <br /> by Councilman Clark with a second by Councilman Langley to approve conditional on a <br /> street closing permit. Motion carried 4-0. <br /> This was a Public Hearin for a confirmatory or resolution for Mt. Olive Manufacturing. <br /> anufacturin . <br /> g <br /> Steve Langley said they were buying a die-cut press for$225,000 to expand their work <br /> and add additional work. They will also add five new employees. A motion was made <br /> by Councilman Cook to approve Confirmatory Resolution#8, 2010; a second was made <br /> by Councilman Clark. Motion carried 3-0 with one abstention by Councilman Langley. <br />
