<br />I <br /> <br />208. All costs and expenses incident to the installation and <br />connection of the building sewer shall be borne by the owner. <br />The owner of the property shall be responsible for the cost <br />of the hook-on from the building to the sewer line along with <br />the cost of connection. The owner or the person installing <br />the building sewer for said owner shall indemnify said Town <br />from any loss or damage that may directly or indirectly be <br />occasioned by said installation, Maintenance of the building <br />sewer on private property shall be the responsibility of the <br />property owner and not the Town. <br /> <br />209. A separate and independent building sewer shall be provided <br />for every building; except where two buildings are In close <br />proximity and no private sewer lS available or can be <br />constructed to the second building through an adjoining <br />alley, court, yard, or driveway, the building sewer from the <br />front building may be extended to the second building and the <br />whole considered as one building sewer. <br /> <br />210. <br /> <br />Old building sewers may be used <br />buildings only when they are found on <br />the Sewer Inspector to meet all <br />Ordinance. <br /> <br />In connection with new <br />examination and test by <br />requirements of this <br /> <br />211. Building sewers shall be constructed using extra strength <br />vitrified clay pipe, ASTM Designation C-700; polyvinyl <br />chloride pipe, ASTM Designation D-3034 SDR 35, type PSM; <br />acrylonitrile-butadiene-styrene (ABS) pipe, ASTM Designation <br />D-2661; ductile iron pipe, AWWA Designation C-151; or cast <br />lron pipe, AWWA Designation C-111. All joints in the pipe <br />and fittings shall be gastight and watertight. The Sewer <br />Inspector may require cast iron or ductile iron pipe be used <br />where the building sewer is in the close vicinity to tree <br />roots or where the building sewer is to be placed in filled <br />or unstable soil. Cast iron or ductile iron plpe shall be <br />used for the building sewer where it lS impossible to <br />maintain a ten foot horizontal and a one and one-half foot <br />vertical separation from water mains and water service <br />lines. <br /> <br />212. The size and slope of the building sewers shall be subject to <br />the approval of the Sewer Inspector, but in no event shall <br />the diameter be less than six inches for single family or <br />duplex residential units and not less than six inches for all <br />other uses. The slope of such six inch pipe shall be not <br />less than one-fourth inch per foot or sufficient slope to <br />maintain a two feet per second velocity in the sewer. <br /> <br />213. Whenever possible, the building sewer shall be brought to the <br />building at an elevation below the basement floor. No <br />building sewer shall be laid parallel to or within three feet <br />of any bearing wall, which might thereby be weakened. The <br />depth shall be sufficient to afford protection from frost. <br />The building sewer shall be laid at a uniform grade and in <br />straight alignment insofar as possible. Changes in direction <br />shall be made only with properly curved pipes and fittings. <br /> <br />214. In all buildings in which any building drain is too low to <br />permit gravity flow to the public sewer, sanitary sewage <br />carried by such drains shall be lifted by approved artificial <br />means and discharged to the building sewer at the owner's <br />expense. <br /> <br />215, All excavations required for the installation of a building <br />sewer shall be open trench work, unless otherwise approved by <br />the Sewer Inspector. Pipe laying and backfill shall be <br />performed in accordance with ASTM specifications applicable <br />to the type of pipe being used, except that no backfill shall <br />be placed until the work has been inspected by the Sewer <br />Inspector or his representative. <br /> <br />-8- <br />
