1521

July 2, 2001

The Mooresville Town Council met in special session on Tuesday, July 2, 2001, at 5:30
P. M. at the Mooresville Town Hall.

Council members present: President Tom Warthen, Andy Pygman, Toby Dolen, Mark
Mathis and John L. Clark. Town attorney Tim Currens was present.

The preliminary reason for the meeting was to discuss purchasing the old Methodist
Church on South Indiana Street to be used as the town hall. On October 16,1999 the
property listed for $650,000., August 20, 2001 was amended to $250,000., and currently
listed at $194,900. The property is listed thru Mathis Realestate, they have offered to the
town and the town only to waive any and all fees, such as sale percentages and all other
fees. This price now makes if more reahsfic for the town to consider purchasing the
property for the town. Mr. Warthen asked to adjourn the meeting from the town hall and
go the Methodist Church to do a walk thru and finish the meeting at the church. Council
agreed and the meeting was adjourned to the Methodist Church.

After the walk thru the meeting was called to order and Mr. Warthen asked for comments
from the council. Councilman Dolen stated that it would take some work to fix it back
up, but it would be a chance to save the historic building for the town. He felt it would
make a nice government center some day. There was some concern about lead paint and
asbestos in the building.

Motion to hire two appraisal firms, a structural engineering finn and an environmental
engineering firm to give the town estimates on the cost of repair and restoration of the
building, was made by Councilman Dolen, second by Councilman Pygman. Motion
carried 4-1. Councilman Mathis abstained.

Mr. Currens will contact the appraisal firms and Mr. Biekman will contact the structural
and environmental engineering firms.

Motion to adjourn was made by Councilman Dolen and second by Councilman Pygman.
