EDC Director Helen Humes presented the tax abatement for Nice-Pak to the council. <br />The Redevelopment Commission had already given a favorable recommendation to the <br />Town Council. Motion was made by Councilman Mathis, second by Councilman Dolen <br />to approve the Findings of Fact and to approve Confn'matory Resolution # 7, 2002, a ten <br />year tax abatement for new equipment for Nice-Pak. Motion carded 5-0. <br />Legal: Attorney Tim Currens spoke about the nightclub under the zoning ordinance as a <br />Special Exception to a B-3 zoning. He said this was up for discussion at this meeting. <br />Motion was made by Councilman Mathis, second by Councilman Dolen to continue on <br />this item next meeting as they didn't feel they were ready to discuss the issue. Motion <br />carried 5-0. <br /> <br /> Motion was made by Councilman Mathis, second by Councilman Dolen to approve an <br /> additional appropriation of $41,790.00 from General to pay for some police car leases. <br /> Motion carried 5-0. <br /> <br /> Police Commissioner Dennis Knierim requested approval from the Town Council for the <br /> 21~t. officer. He told the council he thought this request had gone from a want to a need. <br /> He informed the council it had been three or four years ago since the 20'h officer was <br /> hired. Councilman Mathis wanted to delay a vote on this until financial information <br /> could be obtained. Motion was made by Councilman Clark, second by Councilman <br /> Dolen to approve the hiring of the 21st officer. Motion carried 3-2. CouncilI~an Mathis <br /> and Council President Warthen opposed. Commissioner Knierim said that the pool car <br /> could be used for this officer and since John Forbes had been on active duty in the <br /> National Guard, there would be some of his salary that could be used this year for the 21st <br /> officer. <br /> <br /> Animal Control Officer Mark Taylor reported twenty-five (25) calls, five (5) impounds, <br /> and four (4) r~ums. <br /> <br /> A spokesman for the Downtown Merchants requested the closing of Indiana Street to ' · <br /> Clay Street for Founders Day on July 27th from 9AM to 4PM. Motion was made by <br /> Councilman Mathis, second by Councilman Dolen to approve this based on co-ordination <br /> with the Police Department, Fire Department, Street Department, and residents. Motion <br /> carded 5-0. <br /> <br /> Public Comments: Nancy Berwick asked the Council if the nightclub discussion would <br /> be on the next meeting agenda, and if so, would the audience have an input in the <br /> changes of an ordinance. Town attorney Tim Chm'ens told Mrs. Berwick the zoning <br /> ordinance was a working ordinance all the time and all ordinance changes are done at a <br /> Public Meeting. The discussion will be on the July 2, 2002 agenda. <br /> <br /> Motion was made by Councilman Dolen, second by Councilman Clark to approve <br /> payment of the claims. Motion carded 5-0. <br /> <br /> There being no further business to come before the Town Council at this time, a motion <br /> was made by Councilman Dolen, second by Councilman Pygman to adjourn the meeting. <br /> Motion carded 5-0. <br /> <br /> The next regular scheduled meeting of the Mooresville Town Council will be on <br /> Tuesday, July 2, 2002, at 6:30 P.
